Casual Sellers no longer to pay success fees

I'm not sure we've ever been able to compete with casual sellers on price. They don't have to pay tax on profits. Don't have to spend time filing accounts or hiring accountants. Don't have to comply with all consumer retail legislation.
If anything, with the service fees, in-trade have could have an advantage. Buyers might seek out in-traders to avoid paying that.

Not such great news for me, as a casual-seller! I sell mainly $1 items, but - with the 2.19% Ping fees added onto both the $1 item and the $5.40 postage - that means that for every $1 item sold, that will cost me about 14c in Ping fees.
Therefore not worth selling $1 items when 14 cents is deducted for each $1 item sold.
Whereas, with no success-fee charged for $1 items, the amount received was $1 for each $1 item sold.

As a seller, I fully expect to pay fees to use a platform. As a buyer, no way ... love how TM say that they "hear the people" - wonder what "people" they heard from as I'm picking not many would be a fan of this new initiative. I only hope that TM educate buyers on Ping and that the "Service Fee" is highlighted as a fee imposed by TM and not the seller. Be interesting to see how this plays out. I for one won't be paying any service fee to TM as I won't be buying anything over $19.99. Facebook is looking extremely appealing for selling / buying more and more as TM go down this path.

This new system would probably work ok IF .... Trademe upgraded it's complaint system to include far better negotiation between buyers and sellers including account activity reports.
Sadly, thats been lacking for many years now and a prime example of that is the feedback system.
TM constantly quote the Commerce Commission rules about strict adherence to CC's rules about what can and can't be done but don't appear to include defamation, clear lies etc, but only appear to include (mostly) swearing and blatant abuse.
I have been borderline politely called many abusive names over the 25 years of being on TM but it's only in the last 10-ish years that TM's communication and negotiation skill's have been locked down to an almost "don't care, go away" attitude for anything that needs attention1 -
The fee's I can live with as it IS a nationwide advertising platform, BUT increasingly finding it hard with the lack of compassion and strictly TM's company business rules only.
Generally, you have to use TM for what you can deal with and just give up on resolving issues through TM1 -

How much fees do you pay to sell something on Facebook Marketplace addibum? That is why Trade Me have made this change.
Unlike Facebook which has other revenue streams, and a pretty unfair tax model in New Zealand, Trade Me have to clip the ticket somewhere.
The biggest difference of course is the protection you get on Trade Me versus none on FB.

So are they saying that causal members buying from
a ‘in-trade’ seller will not pay a fee to purchase?Or will in-trade sellers be penalised both ways, eg pay the massive success fees we pay today, and lose customers due to our customers also being charged a fee to purchase.
Love how comms are always so cryptic that we have to decipher what it means. Why haven’t in trade sellers received comms explaining any implications - surely we will be bombarded with casual sellers wanting to know if they will be charged a purchase fee, hence we should know how to respond

Kia ora greg23, buyers on in trade sellers listings won't have a service fee. The service fee applies to buyers on casual listings which will be tiered based on the item’s value.
Service Fee tiers
$0.00 - $20.00 = Free
$20.01 - $100.00 = $0.99
$100.01 - $250.00 = $1.99
$250.01 + = $4.99-3 -

Correct greg23. No Service Fee when buying from an in-trade seller.
I received the email this morning, but TM send these out in tranches so you might not have received it yet.

The Help file as well as the Site Announcement are very clear that the Service Fee only pertains to Buyers purchasing from Casual Sellers ...

How are they going to enforce payment by Ping only?

Afterpay and cash are also allowed payment method options - Cheers.

S, I do realize that. I also realize that cash can only be used in a pick-ups which makes my question valid.

I guess the question is, “if I add a cash payment option”, how is this any different to offering bank deposit? The purchaser selects the cash option, and I email my bank details for them to make a cash deposit.
Once the seller and buyer have each others contact details, there is nothing Trademe can do to prevent bank deposit being offered, leading to the same issues (fraud) Trademe say they are trying to prevent?

A good majority of my customers have been selecting cash to make a bank deposit, since the change, buyers are realizing they can still make bank deposits, if you sent out payment Instructions as per normal, after winning an auction via auction, not Buy now, as I had been running weeks with no Buy Now's, so no cart, to stop people automatically using Ping and Cart, yes it has paid off, Only got a few items up this week with Buy Now's, Items unlikely to need to be combined, so less chance of cart being used with forced Ping, last 54 sales only 5 with Paid with Ping. one I refunded, because they won 2 items and had already paid for both via Bank deposit?, here I was waiting for them to pay the 2nd via Ping too? Lol!, no contact from them at all?, did they actually realize they paid for one twice?, as I found out that night checking bank account,

Zero protection, limited options when buying, too risky is wanting item sent?,I have received a parcel not mine, as wrong label attached, as seller did poor job writing tracking number on small piece of paper stuck on clear plastic bag, yep not even wrapped, don't care but want your money, no accountability, clearly sent via Trade Me book a courier, but after searching, no trace of it been sold on Trade Me at all, no traceability, has label stuck over written tracking number could not be separated without destroying number, Buyer would have felt scammed, as no accountability on sellers part?, my courier friend laughed knowing it was not a thing I would buy, left it with me for a day so I could search trade me hoping to trace the seller, and do the best to try and work out tracking number, would have ended up in the lost parcel corner, likely if not found buyer would have no show of getting money back, as Item post would have been removed off market place, Where as on Trade Me, always there to be found later up to 45 days or later if you keep listing numbers or E-Mails of won items, although the seller had no intention of scamming, it may work out that way and get branded as a scammer,
as so much stuff you would like is out of a pick up range/area?, no everyone can pick up, and too much risk of getting something sent, too may fake accounts, send money then blocked?, How many do you see on Facebook after they have been scammed, yes lots of them,
I only have got stuff from my local pages, where I can pick up,
