Ping, AfterPay and Cash now only options from November
Just received an email re the removal of Bank Transfer from 3rd November as a payment option.
TM had better educate the large amount of traders who don't like Ping as an option to buy - I personally love it for selling and buying.
Would love to hear your thoughts
Edited to add
Would be nice to actually have the "option" to have Ping rather than forced upon us. Cheaper of the two evils i.e. AfterPay - who actually is going to pay cash????

Yes agree, costs are built into our shipping, so at end of week, you can work out if you are covering your costs, and it also tells us when there is a shipping increase, do I need to adjust mine or leave them as is, as costs are still been covered,
My cost is set between the 2 Trade me couriers, so have option to use the dearer one if needed, so it all balances out at end of week, some NZ Post People get Cheaper than normal shipping, where I cannot use Aramex on single Items,
This is one reason I stopped doing Multi Quantity, because I wanted to keep my free form shipping Templates, and in my Products still using my old Templates and will not update them, I do not want to be forced into their costs and display shipping days?, as this holds a seller to ransom so to speak, as depending on destination delivery times differ, I have seen auctions displaying 4-6 days?, this scares people away, well it does me Lol!, they want someone that can ship quicker, and that is where feedback speaks,
After when they made changes and forced others to use new Template, so many complained on the boards about, I read enough to say no, not for me, will not go there, will stay on the old free form & have what we want in shipping, not having to display just one courier only, no, I want flexibility between couriers and Standard NZ Post for PO Boxes, then I am not breaking any contracts between Buyer and seller,

If I were a Trademe exec reading this I think I'd reverse that threat

13 days before In Trade sellers start abandoning this place.

Got my confirmation email back from comcom....... fingers crossed they can do something.
I think buyers are also going elsewhere - as my sales used to be $1000 a week, last week was $250.I do saleson Facebook to but have startd to wonder why my sales are down-also postage costs are high so again Fb is good as locals can collect....... trademe MUST be noticing the difference?????????

i dont think trademe will care about any of the comments on here. they are making a fortune from the overseas sellers now so losing a few nz in trade sellers will probably just be a drop in their huge bucket

neilz do you really think so. I'd never buy anything from an overseas seller as they are overpriced and the delivery cost is too high. Not to mention their terrible feedback.

Back in the day Trade Me was the go to platform to make online purchases. These days TM is useful to find a business here that sells what you need so you can then hunt out their website to deal direct with them without the complications and added costs that go with the arm's length transactions resulting from TM serving as a 'third wheel' in the process.
The whole Ping mandate situation will only make this all the more the case except I'm suspecting there will be less In Trade sellers to choose from very soon.

In reality, I think the overseas sellers are ones causing most issues where goods are not received and Ping has to be refunded, under Ping protection, which we will be funding if Ping forced on us,
You just need to look at some of the feedbacks, and the feedback ratings, Some oversea sellers need to go, and should have been banned along time ago, and some are just well overpriced with their shipping etc. added in (Free Shipping) as a lot of stuff is easily accessible here in shops etc.

There should be no overseas sellers full-stop on Trade Me. Aussie bidders are fine in the main but even then there's always going to be more than the occasional problem with posting overseas/receiving payment etc. The rubbish being sold out of China is an embarrassment to Trade Me, why on earth would you open the floodgates to that mass-produced disposable junk. Solely for more money regardless of the aggravation that goes with it & the inability to police it.

Trademe apparently make their money from cars and property these days with marketplace probably being yesterdays news.
Having said that I still don’t get the disincentives they throw at professional sellers who in the main would cause them less problems.
Much of the secondhand items that are sold by dealers are sold with better descriptions and better service than randoms so when we are gone I’d say that’s the end of marketplace.
As for feedback, there used to be a time when bad feedback was clamped down on, those days are gone. Same as sellers on multiple items flooding categories, no one exists to chase up on that any more.

mme yes i do think that. you may not buy from overseas but heaps do and trademe will be raking in the cash. flossy yep so many of the overseas sellers have shocking feedback but trademe let them continue to sell cos they are getting all the fees. majority of the stuff is junk or fakes...just like all the crap people are buying from temu these days. yes academy i remember when if your feedback percentage got below a certain amount you were gone and yes so many sellers breaching trademes T&C by selling the same multiple items and trademe do nothing. the site is cluttered and 10s of 1000s of items just put anywhere by big overseas sellers. we use cw doing trademes job for them and get no thanks and ignored most of the time. i pretty much gave up using cw cos nothing was done

NEILZ -not all the stuff of TEMU is crap- I buy alot off there and very rarely am I disappointed. 99% of the time Im very impressed - TEMU is tacking sales off trademe and the likes of KMART etc....I gt my packing tape off TEMU along wiht my thank you stickers and gift boxes - packaging.

neilz yes TM seem awfully lazy these days. I certainly would never trust them with a Ping payment.
It's impossible for me to sell here without Fixed Price Offers.
Nothing works. All theTM emails are non-reply! Even the buyer address one.
It's mad!
Addresses don't load into the Pass The Parcel.
The staff were wanting me take a screen shot of when there was 2 week fees free with Ping when I couldn't even add Ping bc of yet another glitch which they already knew about!.
3 -
Two weeks I put Ping on all my auctions
Hardly anyone has used it.
So when Ping is forced, sales will plummet when all those who don’t have a credit or debit card can’t buy.Everyone knows I’ve wanted to move out of this business so this is just another signal from above.
But this is like a Trumpian move designed to obviously force some change of buyer or seller behaviour but I do not believe it has anything to do with making the site safer or even drive extra revenue for TM. It’s shame transparency can’t be seen in this scenario.

MME - I can reply to the buyer with the Address emails.......but what I cant do is email a buyer off the ITEMS IVe SOLD page by clicking on their email address - annoying PLUS anyone else have that glitch ??

cave-man22 . The link in the sold page for the buyers email address is very similar on the desktop site as it is in the mobile site. The new mobile site is missing the reference number, but the link has the item subject title and has the correct call to open an email client if you have one set in your browser. Have just tested and works fine for me on Edge browser.
If you google email links don't open, you can find lots of ways to fix the problem depending on what device and browser you are using.

cave-man22. That's probably related to your own browser or email settings. What happens when you click on the email address given in your items I've sold page?

Callum - not being bale to click on the email to reply to a buyer cant be to do with the browser as we have 2 accts and 2 lap tops and neither will allow us to do it.
0 -
Callum when we click on it a box comes up asking us to log into another email provider from memory

Ah I see. Yes, you haven't set up your browser to tell it what you want it to do when you click on an email address. This isn't a Trade Me glitch. You will get the same issue on any email address on the internet.
The instructions you need will depend on which browser you are using.

All I know is we used to be able to do it now we cant , 2 accts, 2 laptops cant do it.

Callum, I think Cave-man22 has probably set up his computer wrong, so have I.
On my laptop, clicking on the buyer email just opens an email like it should.
But on my iPhone clicking on it asks me to choose mail or gmail and Mail mean iCloud mail which I dont have set up and gmail for some reason on my iPhone sends it from my daughters gmail account. I haven't been bothered to change it but I assume this is what he's running into....I think.0 -

Interesting I got an email from Stripe a payment app we used to use. Wonder if trade me will pass the savings on to us
We're lowering our card processing fees in New Zealand starting 1 December 2025. The Commerce Commission of New Zealand is reducing the caps on interchange fees, and we're passing these savings on to you.

TradeMe: Can you please advise here what Service Level Agreement in terms of timeliness are in place for Ping refund requests? And what kind of arbitration training do TradeMe staff reviewing these requests have? How can judgements against resellers be disputed, should we believe they are unfair?

Further to my post above, everybody here should read the Ping Terms and Conditions listed here:
Ping terms and conditions – Help - Trade MeTradeMe: Some thoughts on Ping T&Cs.
I cannot meet the requirements of section 10.1 ("A seller using Ping must ship items as quickly as reasonably possible (and in any case no later than within three working days of notification of payment") as due to the fragility of the items I have to post it can take me longer than this to secure adequate packaging and wrrap them accordingly. Not to mention that I have a day job, family commitments, and only one staff person, that being myself, who is often on the road securing additional stock for days at a time. Consequently I am going to be in breach of this for a significant portion of my transactions where shipping is required. How can you make me liable for meeting this condition for a service that you make compulsory against my will and means? What happens when I routinely breach this clause that I never agreed to as part of a service I never agreed to using?
I am going to have to stop offering shipping on expensive/fragile items due to clause 10.3 ("If a buyer's item has been damaged in transit, then it is the seller's responsibility to refund the buyer."). Some things I list as pickup only or offer shipping at buyers risk and cost via Pack N Send. I do not want to be liable for damage in transit when shipping is only offered as a last resort on many of my items to folk who can't arrange pickup themselves after they give me a liability waiver. Ping conditions force me to restrict sale of these items to pickup only...meaning my sales decline (or my price) and thus your margin in the process.3 -
