Gold Trade Rebates?

Yes, there was some discussion a month ago when they posted in announcements, but like you, I didn't get an email back then but looks like some did.

I found it odd to get a reminder to be honest. Perhaps they realised they might not have sent the original to everyone so had to send out another round to be sure they caught everyone.

I'm still deciding if I will keep free shipping on the items I offer. I did a trial once years ago for what it's worth. Identical item.

$20 plus $5 shipping = $25.

 $25 free shipping.

The $20 plus $5 shipping generated far more sales. The free shipping one attracted quite a few RD buyers though. Perhaps not surprisingly. So it wasn't really much benefit for lower value items. But the rebate on higher value items made it a no brainer on those.

I think the Free shipping thing has lost favour these days as people abuse it so the search filter no longer works as intended. I have seen so many listings with free shipping so they appear in filtered free shipping searches and have the free shipping icon, but, they then say in their listings $5 extra for rural etc. I generally list with free shipping when I think people are more than likely to buy only one, but then get someone come along and buy 5 or 6, so I just give those ones a discount after they buy anyway.

I have yet to get any information from TM about the abolition of the gold rebate. Not that it bothers me, I think I have had 1 rebate in the whole time it existed

But I guess its being withdrawn, as with many TM actions at present to increase the site to max  profitability for sale in near future

Trademe may as well remove the instruction on the sold page popup where tracking numbers used to be entered manually to get gold rebates, since they no longer exist.

Good spotting Gary, I would not be the least bit surprised if they have missed this completely. Seems many things with the site have fallen into disrepair, including forgetting to advise many members of the removal of gold trade rebates, oops

Yes, I was just going to add some tracking in there for some orders just booked, but then remembered the buyers don't get notified, nor are they able to see it on the new site, and with the rebate gone, I suppose it's one less thing to do now.

The dropping of the gold rebates was mentioned in announcements, but who remembers to go and look there. At least on the old messageboard new announcements were pinned at the top of topics so were easily spotted, but they often forgot to even do that once they started the new help system and announcement pages. It used to be automatic so none got missed, but once they were separated, link to the new announcements were often forgotten unless there was something special and I prompted them to put a link there. That's progress for you.

Hi, was this removed for everyone? Since moving to intrade, fees have become quite significant and across postal rates as well? I still see the gold rebate and was holding on to hope that maybe it would still be available.

Still showing as a pop up today though.... I didn't know about it and the pop up ended up having me search for this.

Yes Carl. Unfortunately Trade Me often seem a bit tardy removing obsolete instructions and information. Perhaps it's a case of the priorities lying elsewhere if it's causing no great harm. Another example is Pay Now. It was replaced by Ping over 5 years ago, but there are still references to it on the website.

Frustrating when you'd imagine it's just a 2 minute job to remove a bit of wording in the code somewhere. Perhaps there is a fear of breaking something else, or maybe the website has to be closed for a bit to make the change.

Kia ora Carl and Callum, I'm keen to follow up on where those mentions of Pay Now and gold rebates are showing up on the site. Can you give me some links to pages where you've seen them and I'll pass those on to the team to have a look into.

When manually adding tracking info on the desktop site,

and when you click on the learn more link it goes to an error page.

Gold Rebate is showing in the same location on our account as well.

Another place Pay Now is mentioned is in the Android App balances page. There is no mention of Afterpay at all. In fact the Pay Now balance is only showing on the Android V174.0 and below versions and since V175.0 there is no Afterpay/Pay Now balance shown at all, just Ping and Trademe account.
