Ping, AfterPay and Cash now only options from November
Just received an email re the removal of Bank Transfer from 3rd November as a payment option.
TM had better educate the large amount of traders who don't like Ping as an option to buy - I personally love it for selling and buying.
Would love to hear your thoughts
Edited to add
Would be nice to actually have the "option" to have Ping rather than forced upon us. Cheaper of the two evils i.e. AfterPay - who actually is going to pay cash????

Totaly agree with your sentiments. I will NOT be using ping or afterpay as I too will be unable to meet the restrictive conditions, thus giving buyers the only other choice - pay cash. This will severely limit my sales as the majority of present buyers use bank transfers and are not from my location. What TM are doing is restricting my business income by mandating a system that does not fit my business model. This can't be legal and is the reason I, among others, have complained to Comcom. My system has worked well for over 20 years and my 99.8 rating and thousands of positive feedbacks prove this. Sadly the end of what was once a kiwi icon is nigh!

Forcing Ping is actually forcing other conditions on pro sellers in addition to removing certain payment options. More fuel for a complaint.
TradeMe why are you charging us more and tightening and limiting conditions over casual sellers? You are disincentivising pro sellers which can only mean the net outcome is a higher percentage of casual sellers who by averages are more likely to lead to a poor selling experience.
Just because someone is in trade does not mean they can ship economically in small batches. By establishing an arbitrary three day shipping period, you may force sellers to ship at a higher cost, stop selling, or breaxh your conditions - all lose lose propositions.
Sad!

Trademe has always been post with in 3 days which I personally dont think is to much to ask.
As for putting in your listings your will not be responsible for damage caused in the post - it has been trademes view at least 5 years that seller much pack items to ensure they're not broken - if they are broken u must refund as you failed in packing it correctly and adequately - I have found this out thru experience, and had the discussion with them about it. If u have something expensive and FRAGILE then it must be pick up - not exceptions.

"Trademe has always been post with in 3 days which I personally dont think is to much to ask."
Yet when I get a buyer who hits BN and then doesn't make payment or contact, Trade Me tell me to wait a week before they'll follow it up!
I live rurally and don't get a daily mail service, so I get to town and the post shop twice a week. I also offer a delivery option on all my listing from Southland to Canterbury for larger items. Usually works out to be every 3 weeks, there's no way I could do that in three days.
Trade Me are just trying to milk the easiest option here.

Hello academy. Yes, the move to user names was notified on here by Trade Me staff here last week.

I'm selling up by year end. I've had enough and between TradeMe fees and restrictions and relentless postage increases, online auction sites aren't workable for antiques and collectibles. I may do something else, smaller, quicker turn around, but the antiques and pottery sections have been on decline almost from when I began 20 years ago. Back then a nice item would get 100 views and 10 watchers, a very nice item maybe 1000 views and 100 watchers. These days over half of my listings don't get a watcher and the entire category is now no longer on the home page for reasons only TM would know. A nice trio might sell now for $25, add postage of $16, and it's almost double the price. It is what it is but TM had a choice to encourage more loyalty and have done the opposite so the message is clear.

For some reason the Antique category incurs a success fee percentage of twice that of some other categories.

Yes, it's ridiculous. Sell a phone I think and it's 5.9% and sell an antique or china vase and it's 14% if using Ping. And they wonder why those categories are dying with a mega low sell through rate.

whats this thing about a move to user names - i think Ive missed something?

Hello kenrick69. Refer to my post a few up there ^

It was announced 10days ago, which is a mystery why they have done it?, as when they changed from old message board, they changed it to our name on our accounts and not our member name, to give some privacy to members, now they have gone back to the old way?, so it is not a good idea to post using 2 different accounts, as it was the old way you were only suppose to post on message boards using only one of your accounts,
But as it was, profile pictures that gave away some members identity anyway, especially if we had traded with them,

I remember having username on comments as being a bad thing the main reason being there were tons of trolls on the old on Trade Me forum discussion system and if anyone did not like the things you said or even as trivial as disagreed with you, they would engage in fake revenge listing reporting. i.e. if some participants in a topic forum did not like you they would immediately get your username look at your listings, and then make multiple fake reports on your listings. and Trade Me as ususal did not really bothered checking the authenticity of their reports. I have experienced this and I remember calling a senior Trust and Safety manager at Trade Me (before covid when we used to be able to phone them ) and having a long discussion about the evils prevailing on the old Trade Me forums and the groups of Trolls on Trade Me.

You can still prevent people on forums from accessing your selling profile and your listings:
1. Click your name 2. Click edit Profile and Enter an Alias in the form, you can prevent anyone from visiting your selling profile and again prevent them from engaging in fake listing reporting.

flossy63 and Sharon. There is a hint in the original post about why it was done. Not sure if you have 2 accounts but it's a bit of a nightmare when you log in and out of community. Because it runs on a semi-separate system it all gets a bit complicated. If I'm switching between my Trade Me accounts I can end up logging in and out 4 separate times to get onto Community with the correct account. By having the same username on here as your Trade Me account, that should hopefully be streamlined.
Yes, there can be some issues with people using it for nefarious reasons. But on the other hand it makes things quicker and easier to check out a sellers listings if they require help for an issue they are having.

Great: MyProducts is down for maintenance, while TradeMe no doubt make their anticompetitive changes. With no warning or notification as far as I can see.
Just great.

I would have thought that they could have found a better time to do the changes.

Possibly they did and royally screwed it up.

Yes, we understand that, we know what it says,
But my point is, Why are Trade Me reneging on their own Stance to make members post anonymous by just using their profile name, to stop trolling etc. when they changed it years ago from the old boards, and now changing it back to membership names, where once again people will start trolling others auctions etc.
This is the point I am getting at. and there will be others asking the same question also, Why?,
Also some posters here have posted on different accounts, so now their Trade Me names are showing, others can connect them to same member, also when reading it, it can confuse others, as it seems you are continuing a conversation to someone else but it is the same person, hence I know 2 accounts of one of the posters before they changed to members names as already picked up on it, as have traded with them in past, so now others can look and pick up on the connected accounts, which is a privacy issue for some, so like the old days you should only post on one account,
Edit, some people do not want others to check out their listings, This is why when people have issues it is their choice to disclose listing numbers etc. Hence I will never ask for that information, I respect members privacy, people whom keep asking for listing numbers etc. to me are just nosey, hence why some never give a listing number and disclose their Membership name, they want to remain private, I respect that,
If they need help, they need to provide screenshots of issue and hide anything they want to remain private,
as a few weeks ago someone gave their listing number out, another poster came back saying they should be Intrade (Trolling), and not help at all with the actual issue the poster asked,
If someone thinks they should be Intrade go through correct channels CW an auction anonymously and not post it in the thread, so now that member may now get trolled themselves by others,
as for switching between accounts why?, Just use different browsers, then they can be logged in all the time, I just switch between browsers, where both my accounts are logged in, no logging in and out at all,

Yes, I posted on the MP down threads about this. All my listings created since MP came back up again last night had Afterpay enabled on them and all my products had Afterpay ticked for when they relist. I don't offer Afterpay. Luckily it's a quick select all then bulk edit, update current listings, job to fix, once I realised the problem.

The hubris of TM is mind boggling … I’ve started to move most of my listings to other platforms …

Likewise, I do not want after pay or even ping, I put all my listings up for 10days no buy Now's on Sunday night before the enforcement,
Bank deposit worked just fine for me I will still be offering it if anyone asks, and I will deal with the changes when I get back home, and change my footer etc.

Hi Flossy/Gary-NZStocked
I, like the rest of you, am pissed off with the rules change. I don't use afterpay (never have/don't want to), but accepted ping as a neccessary evil, along with bank transfer & cash (which means pickup obviously). I'm curious as to how you are going to word listings to still offer bank transfer? Can I just NOT offer postage on the auction, which means buyers will have to make contact and then send bank details to them? Cheers (sorry if this has been asked and I missed it)

Glad to know I am not the only one having issues with postage costs. Due to my free max listing allowance only being 50, I often only list my items for 3 or 4 days so I can have them roll over faster so items do not drop off my unsold items.
Have been noticing lately that my postage options are not available and they try to get me to enter courier costs. I have to confirm the listing and then go back and edit in order to get my own postage costs show.
I also often get to the end of relisting and I either get no confirmation of it being relisted just blank white page or I get and error message. Both times then require me to go back and check it has been listed as not confirmation of it actually being relisted.
So I also hate the new layout and prefer using the older one (more user friendly) but find it annoying that it keeps swapping between the 2 without my control.

I too have similar issues. Having been on TM for 21 years i find it hard to find any positives in being In Trade. I still use BB to do all my listings, although it is getting a bit clunky, and only use PTP for shipping as it is reasoably priced and simple to do. I will ONLY be offering cash payments and the buyer can choose to pay either in folding money or by requesting a bank account to pay into. Will just have to see how it goes.
Im not really selling "in trade" any more however and am in the process of winding down. With this in mind i have been disposing of remaining items (collectables, tools, building materials etc) thru a local Chch auction house. They take a higher commision BUT all i do is drop stuff off then collect payments - no photos, no uploading, no shipping, no stress :) AND some of the prices Ive had, have well exceeded anything generated on TM. Good luck to you all in the new paradigm.
