How a common scam on here at the moment plays out.
FeaturedI have noticed an increase in posts lately, and have been targeted myself, by a type of phishing scam that is prevalent at present on Trade Me. This post is just to give people an idea what it looks like so they can be warned. Everything is fairly professional looking at a glance over. English and grammar OK. Trade Me images and links clear and looking good. My item sold at 11:47am. Trade Me emailed me a warning at 12:54pm. So fairly fast reaction from Trade Me.
Someone buys your item with buynow. You will get the standard genuine item sold email from Trade Me, and also a scam email. The "buyer" might also leave you feedback or ask questions on your other listings urging you to read and comply with an email they will send you "via Trade Me."
This is what the first scam email you receive looks like. Obviously I have added the big blue SCAM

Hi Garry. Yes, I had shares in Trade Me. They did very well too. Then they were all bought out in the takeover in 2019. There has been some suggestion that Apex Partners would sell Trade Me and it will become a publicly listed company again. I would probably buy again if that happened.
Your freedom of choice has not been removed. Nor is it false information. If you don't want something on your watchlist any longer, then remove it.
Yes, the 25 views does seem incongruous, but perhaps it wold look even stranger if there were 25 watchers, and no views.

A "get funds" link in a notification of payment from trademe should be a red flag to most people, as im not aware of any trademe emails or notifications which offer you any links to click on to go to your banks login page. Be sensible people, if you want to do something with your bank account, always open a fresh browser window and type the banks address (ie kiwibank.co.nz, anz.co.nz, bnz.co.nz etc) into the address bar yourself. Type the entire address and then find the internet banking link on the banks main landing page.
Don't ever log into your bank by clicking on a link or a button in an email or message, or on any website - except the banks site which you reached by typing in their address as above.

Hello Nicole. If it's a seller that has active listings you can use the Community Watch button at the bottom of the auction page. If they don't have any listings currently you can use the Contact Us link at the bottom of any page and report them through to Trade Me that way.

buyer won listing! buyer had 500+ feedback
then emailed to ask for bank account details and demanded tracking. ( i could not match email or name to the listing won) as soon as i told them they had to send address via trade me and why. trade me where caught out and trade me sent a email pinnishing scam and they have been removed from trade me. then the email said it was there dads account. yet there account was removed i could still leave negative feedback.
i feel this is more like my listings are being controlled by a small group of criminals.

This notification above is a scam. It took me to my bank account, and I was just about to enter my bank details.

Hello Nadine. Yes, the disputes process does take quite a while to wind through the system. I have a basic flowchart here that will help you get some idea where it could be at. You may need to scroll down

The Disputes Tribunal has found in favour of a buyer, and required Trade Me to reimburse them $4900 after buying an item from a compromised account:
