We're upgrading some of our systems

Heaps has changed since our site was first built in 1999. Along with our new-look, we're upgrading some of the background systems that power Trade Me.

 

Why we're doing this

  • Like any website, it's necessary to complete upgrades from time to time to maintain a modern, secure platform.
  • While our site is working just fine, some of the systems behind the scenes are out of date and complex. Completing these upgrades means we’ll be able to introduce new features we couldn’t do on the old platform, and move faster.

How we're doing this

  • We’re rolling out the system upgrades category by category.
  • This upgrade is being completed in steps, over time to minimise disruption to users.

What you need to know

  • The way Trade Me looks and feels isn't changing – for the most part, you won't be able to notice any difference.
  • Some features may be temporarily unavailable on certain listings from time to time. If a feature you want to use isn't available on your listing, check out our help pages to see if there’s a workaround – for example, you can use Book a courier via My Trade Me instead of from the sold item.
  • Trades via our new system will have a different reference format (KP-12345 rather than P123456789) and updated emails.
  • In-trade sellers and selling tools are unaffected at this stage.

We plan to have the below features back up and running in early 2025. This is not a complete list but the features we notice you are missing the most.

  • Success fee refunds
  • Estimated courier costs in the list flow
  • Book a courier for your sold items
  • Ability to change the category your item is listed in
  • Ability to add a buy now to an existing auction
  • Fixed Price Offer
  • Make an Offer
  • Remove lead bid
