Want to sell a horse but cannot select this category as greyed out

Are you listing via the Desktop site or the App site? 

Are you listing as an Auction or a Classified?

I am on the Desktop site and can create a listing through both Auctions & Classifieds no problem - I'm unsure if Animals can be listed through the App site - Another Member may be able to confirm - Meantime access the Desktop site via the Browser - Cheers.

Yes as S hinted, livestock listings are not possible with the app.

S - horses cannot be listed as an auction, it has to be a classified listing.

That listing is not in the Horses category, it has appeared as an auction because it is in the wrong category.

Years ago, horses could be listed as an auction, now they can only legitimately listed as a classified. If I remember rightly dogs could also be sold by auction, however this practise was discontinued by Trade Me for ethical reasons.

There are plenty listed as Auctions which you will see - TradeMe Rules above state they can be either Auction Or Classified - this listing is Not the only Auction.

If you try starting a listing for a horse in the correct category - Sports - Equestrian - Horses - you will be unable to start an auction.

Yes, despite what the Help pages say, it is not possible to list a Horse by auction, only by classified, unless you do it by listing in an incorrect category, as some seem to do. The Help pages really need to be corrected. 

The correct category is Marketplace - Sports - Equestrian - Horses & ponies then the subcats below that for Horses, Ponies, Miniatures, and Other.

Yes! TradeMe have alot of work to do here - The Help pages are mis-directing Members!

The TradeMe Rules above state they can be either Auction Or Classified and Horse(s) don't appear under Banned or Restricted for Animals Or a sperate Horse(s) within this list like we have for Dogs ... However I have found the reference in  Pets and Domestic Animals - I also note Unborn animals may not be listed - though we have an Auction for Mother in Foal. - This is Not Members mistakes but Rather TradeMe mis-leading Members here.

I think I see Trade Me's reasoning for banning unborn animals - you could not for example sell the unborn progeny of a horse (yet to be born, will require its mother for sustenance, may not be viable etc, etc), but you could sell the mare in foal as a unit. It is normal practice to sell cows in calf, sheep in lamb etc, but selling something unborn could be a right can of worms.

Kia ora everyone. Thanks for the feedback - we've made an edit to that article to clarify. Please remember you can use Community Watch to report any listings that are in the incorrect category. 

Would be nice if that always worked though Lucy. Just look at  Health & beauty > Bath & shower > Shower gel

Of the 1000 items listed there 700 of them are from a single seller. Most of which have nothing to do with Shower Gel. There are dog chew toys, lollies, bluetooth speakers, books, BBQ covers. Everything and anything EXCEPT shower gel.  I have been reporting them since April. That's 4 months.  Absolutely no action has been taken..........

Yep, here's another one I have been reporting regularly for several years with no change. 
Wholesale lots - Jewellery & watches - Watches total 820 listings
4 sellers make up 663 of the 820 listings = 81%, and none of those listings are wholesale lots, but are single items.

The new page content does not define Horses are Classified Only - whilst the correct Listing path is shown in the Link Horses are still associated with Auctions without the text Classified in sight - Perhaps addressing them under the Livestock Link and following Auction, MQL through to Buy Now's altogether and placing the text Classified (asking price) under the new Link placement Defines this Link more clearly.

Current change made today to ...

Dropping the Horse+ Link Below this with the text Classified (asking price) only here. - Adding the text Classified (asking price) tagged under the current is ideal also for this category though Dropping the Horse+ Link with this text Only below that section is a Clear Message as the Link itself still takes one through to the ability to List in both Auctions & Classified albeit incorrect. 

You could also just move it up to be with Cats, dogs, birds, rabbits & guinea pigs which correctly states Classified (asking price) and is where they are placed within the Pets and Domestic Animals section in Restricted - However they do belong in the Livestock section here.

I can also see a requirement for Horses to have their own text content written within Restricted Animals Banned and restricted – Help - Trade Me - Finding this information under the Pets and domestic animals Link is Not the Natural place one would initially search.

Members who read the rules they can list in Both Auctions & Classifieds shouldn't be under a Community Watch Banner - this has Not been their mistake - However coming forward with correct Guidelines of the Rules is another story - Cheers.
