Received Trade Me email asking for my bank verification code
AnsweredI did a buy now and paid via credit card. I received an email supposedly from Trade Me asking for a 4 digit verification code from my bank statement. I have never had this before and don't know if its a security risk or not. I have tried contacting Trade Me twice now but haven't had any response to date.

EditedKia ora, Our Trust and Safety team do perform checks on first-time or large Ping payments. The code they've requested will be attached to a 1-cent deposit into the bank account your payment was made from. Here's the Help page explaining the process in more detail

Thanks nikkimikaere,
When you set up a Ping transfer out of your account for the first time, after selecting your transfer out method - Manual or Automatic - you will receive a .1cent into your nominated Bank account - this confirms to TradeMe they have the correct Bank account, - It can take a couple of days for the .1cent to appear in your Bank account as this is setting up the account for the first time.If you selected a Manual transfer out, once you see that 1.cent in your Bank account select the transfer out once more to release the funds. Both manual & auto transfers leave Ping accounts in batch runs approx. 2:45pm everyday - any transfers requested and Ping payments made after 2:45pm will go out in the batch run the following day after which it is up to your Banks processing times for the funds to land in your Bank account.Keep your eye on your email incase the company require any further information from you, being it's your first transfer out. - You may not receive an email, this is just incase the company require any further verification which would be a one off. - All the Best.0
