Verify your Ping payment
Find out what to do if we ask you to verify a Ping payment.
Before we complete your purchase, we may ask you to verify your Ping payment.
How to verify your Ping payment
To verify your Ping payment:
- Go to your internet banking and find the transaction on your statement.
- Locate the four-character code on the transaction. For example, the code is Eud5 if your statement reads ‘Trademe Eud5 Ping 12’.
- Send us the code by replying to our email that asked you to complete the Ping payment verification.
Your purchase is on hold until you verify the payment. If you didn't make this purchase, contact our Customer Experience team.
Where to find the code
You can find the code on your internet banking statement. Look up the transaction for the Ping purchase you need to verify. The code is four characters (numbers and letters) and appears between the words ‘Trademe’ and ‘Ping’.
Why we ask for payment verification
If our system suspects a Ping transaction was made by someone other than the cardholder, we’ll hold the purchase and ask for payment verification.
Asking for verification is how we check it’s actually you making the purchase, and not someone else. It’s one of the ways we keep Trade Me a safe place to buy and sell.
It’s unlikely we’ll ask you for verification multiple times, but always check your emails after a purchase for any notifications.
What happens while your purchase is on hold
We put the purchase on hold until you verify your payment.
When we ask for verification, we also contact the seller to let them know we’re checking the payment and not to send or hand over the items. After you verify the payment, we release the funds to the seller and let them know the trade can go ahead.
What happens if you don’t verify your Ping payment
If we don’t hear back from you within a few days, we’ll refund the payment to your card. We also let the seller know about our decision to refund the transaction and let them know they can relist the item.
