Paying through bank transfer
I'm trying to buy a book but all the sellers seem to only off Ping or credit card as a way to pay. Can we not pay by bank online banking now?

Payment options are things a seller sets on their auctions. The choices are endless but some sellers don't offer many options for numerous and varied reasons.
You can always ask a question on an auction to see if someone will accept another payment method if you can't find a seller that offers the payment option you'd prefer.
Payment options do have a selectable filter when searching, but it's only limited to Ping or Afterpay and doesn't have cash, bank deposit, or other, even though these are selectable options for sellers when listing. A fully working payment options filter on searches is what is needed, and would help you in your search.

It's a sellers choice (except International Sellers) they must use ping
To be honest ping is safer and easier. While I still offer online banking very few use it. Don't forget that by using ping your money is received immediately by the seller, allowing faster dispatch times. You also have Buyer Protection from Trade Me when you use ping.

I beg to differ, I do not offer ping, just bank transfer,
I get a lot of old school buyers, Nana's, grannies who buy for grand kids etc.
& those that do not have credit cards, who are very happy to pay by bank transfer only,
Only had 2 complaints for not having ping, and are from young new mothers, who want to make it easier for themselves?, but no thought for poor sellers that have to pay fees for them to use it,
I did have ping at one stage, and personally amount of E-Mails, fees, people choosing shipping on every item, so refunding a lot. yes a lot of time wasted, when they buy 20 - 30 items or more, it was a nightmare, as most my buyers buy multiple items,
so just stick to my good old excel work book, just enter my sold items, confirm combined shipping & total to pay, It works for me,
and the ping fees were a killer too, as my category went to 9.9% last September, so do not need the extra fees, and when you sell a lot of individual items at .50c and $1.00 don't need ping fees on those,
I have a good feedback as a seller, only sell mainly one type of used item, that are listed honestly, what can go wrong? feedback speaks,
and they will not get shipped any quicker having ping?,

Be aware that if you use the shopping cart you can not pay by internet banking. You can only pay by internet banking if
1. the seller has enabled it, and
2. you purchase the listing individually, not using the cart
I sometimes get people asking why they can't use IB on my listings. They can, they just tried to do it using the cart.

I changed all my items to Ping only, after struggling to get payments from buyers using internet banking. Now I am getting buyers refusing to pay by ping AFTER making their purchase. There should be a way that the trade cannot progress (including on FPO's) if payment is not made on a Ping only listing. It is so frustrating and a time waster trying to get payment out of some people.

Gail, the only way to force a payment at time of purchase is to make the listing a Buy Now only listing. If it's Buy Now only AND you only have Ping, then the buyer can only purchase and pay immediately with Ping. Anything other than those conditions and the buyer can pay when they like, but nobody should be asking to pay by other than Ping if you don't have other options listed in the auction, or unless they have asked a question first.

Gary - All my auctions are buy now, but I do offer FPO's also. Seems the FPO's don't insist on a ping payment immediately. It is amazing the questions (demands) that get asked after purchase but before payment - change payment option, change shipping, combine auctions for no extra shipping etc, want to collect when I have no pickup. I even had one person ask for payment by 'other' to be an option - not cash, bank or ping.

Yes, that's right, FPOs don't have to use Ping immediately.

This is the last time I ever use Trade Me then.
