Auction won by Buyer with Closed Membership profile

They may have used Buy Now just before their membership was closed. I imagine you only found their membership was closed AFTER they used Buy Now. Once the membership is closed, it would not be possible to use Buy Now, unless it's a TM glitch that allowed it.
If they make contact and pay, why not go ahead. Make doubly sure though that the payment is well cleared in your bank acc before releasing goods, or that it's cash in your hand. If you are all suspect, don't go ahead.

Thank you Gary, your support is much appreciated. Just wanted to check as it seemed odd, they also have a (-1) against their TM name and looks like their account just started up this month -July 2023. I have sent them an email to contact back if still keen (pickup only/cash or bank aact). If it falls through I will request "sucess fees" refunded and maybe next time select the Authenticated members only options. Cheers.

You do see some dodgy looking things sometimes. 2 days ago I noticed a new member just updated their profile photo to their account that was -1 feedback, and then a few minutes later the same profile photo popped up on a brand new member with the same name in their profile. Both memberships were disabled within a few minutes of notifying TM.

Actually I missed an urgent email from TM Trust and Safety warning me the trader is banned from TM not to proceed with trade! My fees had already been refunded and I have relisted the item. Trying to find how to Block that member now. I've not experienced this since starting on TM in 2005. Be careful everyone.

Yes Dee, a very common occurrence lately. A new or hacked account. They buy dozens of items from different people then initiate the good old "I'm overseas but will pay with paypal" scam You will likely get an email from a completely different address asking if you want to sell the item to them.

Kia Ora Dee,
Sorry to hear this has happened to you.
To block a Member on TM you can add them to Your Blacklist - However since TM have banned them from their site they will catch an attempt at reinstating this Member name.
Your Email program should also have a Blacklist function which will catch the email address from coming into your inbox - search your email Help for assistance or contact your service provider.
Watch out for foreign emails you aren't expecting, especially surrounding the Sale, Trade & wanting to purchase, as Callum has indicated, Don't click any links or respond to these, Add them to your Email Blacklist and move the email to your spam/junk folder for your service provider to pick them up and block them from their network.
All the Best - Cheers.

Yes, I have been on Trade Me for many many years, and noticed more and more threads about scams etc. on here,
But just a few days ago I just found out to become Authenticated, you only have to put $1 on your account?? or use a buy now, NOW!, I had no reason to go and check those details over the years,
Seriously this is just dumb, dumb, dumb it is allowing scammers, they will have no worries paying just a dollar on their accounts or using a buy now on a 50c item, ( which now explains those 50c item dodgy trades I had last year that wanted to drive hours to pick up, but I smelt a rat & accounts got disabled quickly by Trade Me, so did not automatically send an manual E-Mail with contact details which I actually had stopped doing a few years ago, until they confirmed they would be doing a 3 hour round trip to pick up a 50c item, which I never got a response too no surprises, no contact at all from the buyers, yes the are phishing for those details in Auto Payment instructions, Bank account number phone number pick up address that are all automatically handed out by some sellers in one E-Mail?,
People wake up, remove contact details, addresses from auto payment instructions,
One reason I stopped pick ups, so no longer need to supply those details at all, and yes, I even cross my ph number out on my NZ Post courier labels too when I print them out.
What the heck, years ago it was $10. and something like you could not use Buy now's until you had done 5 Trades or something,
and could only have a limited number of items on your watch list at once,
Someone please refresh my memory, if that is not quite correct,
So limiting your Auctions to Authenticated only is just a waste of time now, what Trade Me are doing now is totally backwards,
even removing the Address verified, they are literally now inviting scammers,

The old help page says you didn't need to be authenticated to use Buy Now, just like the current, but now you only need to pay $1 vs $10 in the old days..
Old help page.
To become an authenticated member on Trade Me (and get your first red star ) you need to credit your Trade Me account with a minimum of $10. Alternatively, when you use your credit card to successfully purchase items using the Buy Now button and through Pay Now, you will also become authenticated.
Authenticated members have additional features available to them on Trade Me. These include being able to:- place a listing
- place bids over $5,000
- use the question and answer feature
- place bids on more than five separate auctions at once.
Unauthenticated buyers used to not be able to list items for sale with a Buy Now, not sure if that's changed or not?
Old help: Sellers need to be authenticated to set Buy Now prices on their auctions.
New help: says nothing about it.

Thanks,
But I am sure in the early days you could not use the buy now's until you had done 5 trades, or was it had 5 feedback?,
I remember not being able to use Buy Now's as a new member, this was before pay now was even a thing,

Yes, I think it used to be 5 feedbacks and just checked my old purchase history from Jan 2004 and the first 5 were bids, then a Buy Now. A bit more relaxed these days.

Hello sokleak. If you haven't received the payment don't send the item. Sounds like it's lucky you didn't just blindly believe a screenshot and send it. Their account being closed could be a hint that you escaped a scam of some kind.
If Trade Me have banned them the feedback will be removed automatically. But you can also ask them to remove it manually. Follow the link below and hit the "File a report" button near the bottom.

I recently accepted a buy now from a person for my listing and they payed with anz bank account. Then the next day my account was blocked i called the bank and when i got to the bank branch they told me that the person that deposited the money to me reported me as FRAUD! I still have alot of money in my bank account and i cant get it out anymore

And i mentioned that i dont do refunds in my listing and they asked for a refund after i booked the courier and stuff in a impolite manner. Now my bank acc is blocked as fraud which i am very annoyed about.

Seems rather strange the bank has blocked your account on just the say so of someone other than the account holder. I would be knocking on the door of the bank and asking them why they have done that and on what authority and when they are going to release your bank account. I would also no matter what the outcome, be taking this to The banking ombudsmen as it does not seem lawful.

I went to the bank just 5hours ago and they told me to fill out a form and then they send it to the fraud team. I still have some trade me listings i may need to pay for but account is blocked now i cant do anything

Is there a possible way for TM to contact the bank and help unblock my account?

I doubt Trademe can do anything at all as it's not really anything to do with them. I would email the sellers of any purchases you have made that are still to be paid for and explain you are having problems with your bank that you hope to have cleared up in a few days. Don't mention fraud. Most people will be understanding if you contact them and apologise for the delay.

I am the seller and the buyer has reported me as a fraud.

I doubt the bank will clear it up in a few days

I rather say that the bank probably wont clear it up until a month later or even longer

I don't know, But maybe contact the police, how many others is this person going to do it too?,
the bank will have account number payment came from, so can trace owner of that account,
if Trade Me account had false details, was it a new member?, and if address given was false?
and membership closed, was that Trade Me or Member themselves that closed account?,
Yes a lot of questions need to be answered here, go get advice from Police, it may speed things up to get account sorted,
One good thing it was booked online, evidence of Tracking etc.so not Fraud,
but this person needs to be stopped if they are doing it to others too, It is harming you and your mental health,
they may see it as a harmless joke, but reality it is a serious offense, if you cannot access your money to pay bills buy food etc.
it will effect your credit ratings too, especially if Automatic payments are declined,
Hope you get it sorted asap,

They told me that the trademe address was incorrect told me to change their address which i agreed

flossy63 Community Superuser
That sounds fishy,
I hope you have kept all Communication, Courier booking E-Mail which will have the new address on it, Sold E-Mail which will have
Original supplied
I would definitely go to police, see what they can do, so Address on Trade possible not theirs, false / decoy?
but used it hoping they cannot be found via Trade me?, who knows, sounds like member is someone young,
not enough life experience to know the bank account they paid from can be traced,
The mind boggles on this scenario, why would they report you as a fraud? very strange,

ANZ has given me a reply of that the person used a hacked account to transfer money to me. then the owner of the hacked account reported me as fraud

Yes, I thought it would be something similar to that Foxtly. The banks have had a bit of media and Govt. pressure on them lately around scams. They have to act quickly when someone reports an issue. The response seems to be shut everything down straight away then sort it out from there. Sounds like you've been caught up in that through no fault of yours. Hopefully that means it will be sorted out promptly. The original account holder or the bank was probably just trying to protect their funds.
