My Trademe account is being stalked by a person overseas
AnsweredI know the person. They are not in Nz anymore.
They are cyberbullying and harassing me and Ive blocked them on all fronts yet they spend hours trying to find me. They sent me threatening messages because they found my trademe account and "took photos" of what I'm selling (Clothes, baby stuff and some old stuff of dads) and are posting those images on facebook and accusing me of stealing things. I know the person personally. They are a mentally unwell individual. They have been harassing and cyber stalking me a while. Police and Netsafe are both involved. But this recent attack on me saying that they have found my trademe account.....its technically not major but it makes me feel really uncomfortable and kind of reluctant to even log on because someone is watching what Im doing with malicious intent. I submitted a report to trademe to have their account shut down (They have an acc here but they are overseas not in Nz) and Trademe have not responded to me. What do I do? Send Trademe another message. Can this person still stalk me if their account is shut down? In the old days without an account on here you couldnt use the site. Do I have to shut my account down?

Kia Ora Kate,
That's Horrible what you are going through!
Yes! Anyone can browse listings on TradeMe! - You may want to consider changing membership name however TradeMe are the Best people to speak with & to advise you here and are your quickest responders.
To get direct assistance from a TradeMe staff member if you go through 'Contact us' at the bottom of this, or any TM page you come to a Drop Down menu form however if you give the screen a count of 15+ seconds a 'Chat' Tab will Pop up in blue bottom right of your screen enabling you to Live Chat.
The Live Chat manned hours are Monday - Friday 8:00am - 6:30pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm

All the Best - Cheers.

This is one of the more disturbing messages that has ever been posted on this page.
It sounds like you are doing the right things here, when you sent T-Me a message did you use the live chat feature - or did you fill out one of the forms? The live Chat can be a bit better at getting faster results, I am not sure what T-Me can do, even if they are booted off the site, they can still visit and look at listings, and potentially find you.
Perhaps they could change your profile name? Or it maybe a case of closing your account, and starting a new one.
This is really not ok, I hope it can be resolved for you in some way.

Would changing the account name help if the person has already added the OP to their favourite sellers list? I would have thought setting up a completely new account would be the way to go.

Yes! though if TM shut the other persons acct down first perhaps then no favourites saved - just thinking of losing positive feedback already built up. TM will know what's best I'm sure - Cheers.

If it's just a change of membername, then no, that won't help unless it also get's a new membernumber. A simple bookmark of a fav saves the membernumber not the membername.

Cheers Gary, I wonder if TM are able to take feedback across to a new number? I know it's possible though unsure on the TM platform or how they will want to play this one - Cheers.

With stopping pic's being copied and posted in FB you will want a new account, TM's flowing with clothes and Baby stuff as you will know therefore you'll blend in with the crowd again in the interim with no identifiable member pic' or listings. As this member is overseas the NZ Police won't pursue them, as you're possibly aware - at the same time I would keep them updated here forming a complete trail. - I imagine you're just as weary logging into FB atmo' too, - you'll certainly be able to disguise yourself better in TM and Yes! they do take these cases seriously - Definitely 'Live Chat' for instant assistance, Trust & Safety will be onboard. - All the Best.

If you get a new account, change back ground of Photos, do not use your old photos,
as it will give you straight away if same backgrounds,
Change format in your descriptions, and in your shipping too, round shipping up etc. which you are entitled too do,
change shipping format if still using the old format, do not copy and paste from past auctions on old account,
re write any conditions on auctions, re word etc.
This is how I identified someone Intrade who had shocking feedback, they started a new account, but other account still active, not disabled, but photos looked familiar,
especially clothing, same wall Lol!, other items they sell also had background I had seen before,
I checked sold items on old account in Feedback, bingo, yes shipping, brief descriptions etc, all written same way,
Contacted trade me with my hunch, new account was gone very quickly,
If you start a New account, a total new beginning, don't even let anyone you are related to know it, if possible.
use you middle name on profile if it helps?, but not same name as old account, if that is possible?,
if possible take a break?, no listings for a few weeks, just take time out to set up new listings etc.get stock etc.
they may search for a new account and give up after finding nothing for a few weeks that match or look familiar,
I was stalked on my flossy account before Intrade come in, So it became my Intrade account, they weren't interested in what I was selling so think they lost Interest, and I started a new personal account that no one knows,
Which I have not used for a very long time, so could sell off presents I had never used & would never use been sitting in cupboards for years etc. that I could not sell on this account before Intrade came in because of the nosy parkers,

That's awesome detail flossy63 - sorry to learn you've had an experience yourself though, this is great support for starting anew under these circumstances and highlights how discrete one can be onsite if needs be - Cheers.

@kate did you get answer as I have had a similar situation but with an obsessive narcissistic ex, who has weaponised child support reviews to stalk me and found my trademe account printed all my listings and suggested I’m not declaring income it was so violating and when 134 trade half of which or more were buying not selling over 4 years it’s hardly income

Am being stalked by a narcissitic ex-partner in an similar, if not, identical, situation to the user Charlotte's post shown above. Horrific. It has been going on for the last three years submitting screenshots of my Trade Me account listings to IRD child support and creating Administrative reviews with this form of stalking and harassment behvaior and weaponising and alienating children. I feel extremely uncomfortable. There is no reason why Trade Me cant have a function to completely block a user from seeing your profile , which would give support to users not being able to silently stalk Users. (Much the same as FB has to block a user profile). Scary and unsafe this form of harassment
