How to: Enter an address manually when using Book a Courier
PinnedEvery now and then, the delivery address for your recipient might not let you confirm a pick up when using ‘Book a courier’. If you’ve checked the details with the buyer, or used the address finder, and are still having issues, you can enter the address manually. To do this, select ‘Can’t find your address?’ when you enter the address finder box. You can then put in the details yourself – sometimes leaving ‘Suburb’ empty sorts any formatting issues.

If you still get an error in BAC when using address manually, or just 1 courier rather than 2 show in the list it is usually the post code not recognised
Repeat manual entry, ie choose Can't find your address?
Put in the address
Leave out suburb (This is the important part).
Put in city/town and post code if you know it's correct, else click on the find Post code button to go to the NZPost website and find it there.
Click the Update address button, and both couriers should pop up.
If there is still a problem, it suggests the post code is still incorrect.
Repeat the procedure, but look up the address on Google maps and check the post code there. Often post codes do not get updated regularly and/or a post code boundary has been added or modified. Sometimes all sources other than my brain are incorrect and I know what the actual post code is.6 -
Why are address's not vetted correctly when the seller enters them why must it be left for the shipper to fix?
Problems that are common, these and more
Incorrect post codes
Too many characters in the address
People not putting the rural part of the address
Spelling address's wrong
PO Boxes in general

I found the same
people can add weird formats which confuses the courier booking functionality
try to get around paying for rural postage

Please double check the TM entered address information matches on the PDF label as I just spotted an issue that shows some detail does not match. For example ‘name, street, suburb, Rangiora 7400’ provided by buyer appears as ‘name, street, suburb, Ashley 7400’.
I did not edit the delivery address at all - Rangiora 7400 is the recognised address in NZ Post so really concerned why it changed to Ashley.

Can anyone tell me why the pull down menu for 'Can't find your address' offers a few North Island addresses then stops,. Is it programmed to only offer the northmost three possibilities. This can be frustrating when someone has a rather generic address like "X Main Road, YTown." This exact same database is used in other contexts, for instance, real estate value sites and it's possible to see a complete list. However, TM limits the choices to the northernmost ones. Why? What's the rationale at work here?

Hi Martin - I don’t use TM that often (I get frustrated as the process has got too painful) but I have noticed a limited selection appearing but I thought it rectified as you typed more of the address. My massive concern of late is TM generated emails that totally lack any address information from the buyer. So you receive an ‘buyer has notified their address for delivery’ and the address field is blank. Also received the same for payment detail as a buyer (account detail is blank). I have no idea what has happened to the TM platform but it has become unusable…

Yes, NZ Post courier via BAC accept PO boxes. You often need to manually enter the address as PO Box xxxx , leave out the suburb, put a city in and the postcode. I often write the PO BOX xxxx (suburb) in the delivery instructions to avoid confusion.
You can check the postcode by going to NZ Post address finder, Address and Postcode Finder | NZ Post and put it in in the format PO Box xxxx and it will show postcode alongside any different suburbs available.

Which link Ed? I can book a courier via my sold items by clicking the Book courier button, and also from My Trademe book a courier, and also from the Book courier link in my sold item email from TM. Is there somewhere else?

There needs to be an update to their shipping page to have a highlighted option to add manually / one off if there are issues - when the error message states to check the NZ post website (if your address is indeed correct, please enter manually here. I tried multiple times to add various addresses to pick up and unfortunately ended having to use Aramex.

I cannot get BAC to work for a RD9 Hastings address. I get error
The pick up or delivery address needs updating. Please check the address at www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/address-postcode-finder.
Both sending and receiving addresses have been updated in accordance with previous posts, leaving out suburb (or not), checking postcodes, etc, but cannot do it. How do I get past this, please?

Correct postcode for that area should be RD 9 Hastings 4179. You may want to double check the actual road name on google though as for example some people there say Whana Whana Road when it's actually Whanawhana Road. I just put this address in to BAC and using the std lookup it returned the address and gave me quotes ok.
