Make an offer - In trade members
I keep getting asked how potential buyers can make an offer. Im an in-trade member.
Any particular reason why the 'make an offer' functionality doesn't exist for in-trade members?
Surely Trademe's most valuable members should have more functionality, not less?

Not sure greg23. For me it's not something I'd use. I mean you don't go in to the warehouse or other retailer and make an offer on their items do you?
The problem is it's a vicious slope. If you allow offers then people will expect you've priced your items high, and that you will accept lower offers. You'll spend your whole day messing around checking offers. Including weeding out the ridiculous ones. You'll likely never sell an item at the listed price again. Potential buyers will move on to other sellers if you're not on your game and answer their offer immediately.
It all seems strange to me. I get that it's "normal" in some countries and markets. But I don't think it's a particular part of Kiwi culture.

I for one as an Intrade seller do not want it, we are in business for a reason, to put food on the table, we are not charities, we are not having a shed clear out, where we just want to get rid of stuff,
We already have to deal with ridiculous offers in Q&A's which some are quite insulting to say the least, we set our reserves and Buy Now's, so that is the lowest we will go,
Callum has hit the nail on the head, yes you would not go to the warehouse or other retailers and make an offer on their items?,It is the same for us Intrade Sellers, whom a lot are businesses like the Warehouse etc. Buyers need to realize this, don't like the price just move on, Don't make ridiculous offers via Q&A's some are very insulting to point I have Indeed blacklisted a Member who kept making insulting offers & expected free shipping too?,1 -
I’m confused, isn’t the make an offer feature optional? Ie if in trade members had the option of using it, we could turn it off and on, per listing.
You both make it sound as though enabling this feature for in trade members would mean we a forced to activate it across all listings?
I must be mistaken , as I was always of the understanding that casual members chose whether to activate it or not.Back to my original question, surely in trade members should have more functionality , not less?
Enabling make an offer, would be the preference of the business, but why is the option not available for those who may want to use it?

The bigger picture if it is available to Intrade sellers, even though we would not use it, not have on our auctions, as optional, it means more offers would be made via Q&A as buyers would expect being able to use it, and expect to make offers on all Intrade Sellers & Casual sellers, even though no offer facility offered, some buyers are clueless, and just want everything cheaper,
and still make offers in Q&A's on casual sellers who do not use the make an offer,
As it is now, a lot know it is just for casual sellers, if it becomes available for all, Intrade Sellers will be bombarded with even more questions wanting offers, and expect to be able to make offers, So looking outside the bigger box, it is a no from me for the make an offer for Intrade sellers, just inviting more ridiculous offers in Q&A's that we do not need,

Yes, it's optional. But like Flossy I'm already getting an uptick in buyers chiming in with silly offers. If it became known that in-trade sellers can also activate it I suspect it might release an avalanche of buyers assuming the prices that all in-trade sellers are flexible.
Obviously it depends on the items you are selling, but I have to ask why would you? I presume you would increase all your prices by 10 or 20%, activate offers, then accept any that fall in that range? Otherwise you are just telling everyone that the price you have the item listed at is higher than what you want.
Trade Me have never said exactly why they haven't activated it for in-traders that I know of. A potential issue I can see is integration with Listing Tools.

flossy63 Community SuperuserThanks Callum, my thoughts exactly, If Intrade sellers want the make an offer, obviously they have already marked up their items, But some of us offer fair prices already undercutting others selling similar items at my bottom price, so no I do not need ridiculous offers, $60 retired item some one wants 33% discount??, already listed well under market value, um sorry no thanks, Reserve & Buy now's as set,Yes, some offers Via Q&A's are just a joke, on an Intrade Sellers?, do some buyers think we are Intrade just for the fun of it & pay higher success fees just for fun?, Do they not connect Intrade as a Business?, Main income for a lot on here?, another words it is their daily Job?, weekly pay packet, yet they want discounts on non essential items & take food out of others mouths trying to make an honest living?,1

A seller has listed 7 items all under the one listing for a buy now price of $150 for each one and each also open to offers but she will not answer questions or offers. Any idea how I can try to buy just one of her items? They are no. 5694356957

If you only want one item, and you are prepared to pay $150 for it, just hit the buynow.
These kind of auctions are full of difficulties, and it's going to come and bite the seller in the butt unless they are very communicative. Clearly they aren't. There is no way of telling if someone else has already clicked buynow and wants the item you want. That's not your problem though. That's the sellers issue to deal with.
EDIT: To say it's the sellers first listing on Trade Me, so I guess you can give them some leeway for not knowing quite how things work.

The Seller is likely avoiding Success fees by listing multiple different items as an MQL - they've been a Member since 2019. They should be listing separate items. Multi Quantity is for same items & the Help file is clear on this. - MQL's can't be edited after a first purchase is made either so there is no way to tell if an item has been sold. - The listing needs to be Community watched, there are 14 photo's each for different items yet the MQL is only indicating 7 available. - Hitting Buy Now is a risk of ending in a Dispute if the item one's after has already sold. - Cheers.
Just to add - The Title is very misleading stating "machinery various - for woodworking and boat building - all work." - out of MQL 7 items the photos show 1 is a bicycle - 1 is frames & an umbrella stand - 1 is for a sewing machine on a desk - 1 is a single chair. - These are Not Machinery for woodworking or boat building!

WoW!! Looking at the response to questions asked on the closed listing this definitely looks like a very shady listing - just as well no Buy Now was executed. - You will want to contact a staff Member to remove your contact ph number provided - This is not allowed though is also viewable to the Public & can easily be picked up by bots and untoward players. - Cheers.

I’m surprised there is not some automatic way for Trademe to identify people posting phone numbers in Q&A. Surely can’t be that difficult, look for a series of numbers, numbers spelt as words, or numbers either side of ‘dot’ . I get it all the time on my listings, people commenting, “can you contact me on zero two one etc etc “

I agree, I get them to, I do not respond, they get a warning on when they go to ask a question, I just get Trade Me to remove the Unanswered Question with contact details, and generally Blacklist these ones who have enough feedback and experience to know better, and also expect me to provide my number or ring?, no Sorry, all my communication is via E-Mail only!!, I do not give out my number at all, I am not going to put my account at risk,

Much the same as they don't identify the same in descriptions. I have a fav search that shows over 3500 listings with contact details in them right now, but do Trademe do the same thing.....no. In most cases, it's repeat offenders that do it month after month, year after year despite weekly CW reports.
