How to add bank deposit / cash payment options?

Kia ora greg23, we recently made changes to the payment options, removing bank deposit and making Ping a compulsory payment method for in trade sellers. You are still able to select cash as a payment option. There's information on it here, you would have received an email about it at the beginning of October.

Thanks Michelle. How is cash any different to a cash deposit made to a bank account? In NZ cash is legal tender, and I’m struggling to get my head around why bank deposit would be removed as an option, while cash is still available.
It’s clearly having an impact on my sales given I previously offered bank deposit, and many of my sales used this payment method. I understand the need to offer ping and afterpay, both of which I’ve always offered, I’m struggling to understand the reasoning behind removing bank deposit as an option from listings which already offer ping as an option.

flossy63 Community SuperuserI hear you Greg and agree, my sales have died, as a lot of my customers were schools, Playgroups, Toy libraries etc. who could only pay by Bank deposit as purchases need to be signed off by 2 people, although I offer cash, people don't read it the same as Bank deposit?, so why change the wording? as it is interpreted as actual cash in hand when I do not have pick ups, Hopefully over time people will get use to this and just select it,It is literally killing us little stay at home people who sell 2nd hand toys etc. like everyone else I need to put food on the table too, Trade Me is now literally taking food out of mouths,I want both Cart and Ping gone, already had some ask to use Bank deposit, as they used cart and could not complete the Transaction, as could not select cash there so they had to cancel cart and buy Individually, so all paid by Bank deposit as per normal, It was only their question on an auction that actually alerted me I had cart added also, which has never been set up as don't want to use it, so it cannot calculate the correct shipping, on addresses, couriers etc. so therefore have to offer Bank deposit for correct amount to be paid, I cannot sent 17 items for only $6?, seriously it is so wrong. it is giving me headaches,Cart is not suitable for us little stay at home businesses, we cannot absorb the extra costs etc. even this morning a big multi buyer, while picking their items could not tick them off individually in My Products, as in cart, so had to go through double, triple checking I had all items in their box, as so much scrolling up and down as nothing can be ticked off, it just wasted so much of my time, yes NEED CART GONE FULL Stop!, Trade Me have not put enough thought on forcing Ping & Cart on us,My buyers prefer Bank deposit, my feedback speaks, I am a trusted honest seller and I put things right if I err. but it means nothing to Trade Me, we do not all fit in the same Box,Trade Me need to rethink this Forcing Ping, they are not only putting their Members out of Business, they could put them selves out of Business as so many now going elsewhere, and penalizes buyers too who do not want too & cannot use Ping.5

greg23 Cash hasn't been removed. You can still have that listed.

Callum, yes realise that. I posted in this thread but my post is pending. I questioned why bank deposit would be removed , but a cash option be available. How is bank deposit any less secure than cash? I’d prefer cash being deposited in my bank account, vs having cash handed to me in person.

HI greg23. Trade Me's reasoning for the change is that it allows Buyer Protection to kick in. It is explained in the email that was sent to all in-trade sellers. They had been subject to some recent bad press where people were scammed when they paid money into bank accounts and never received their items.
With cash, the understanding is the buyer turns up and hands over cash before the goods are released to them. So that's pretty safe for both parties.
Of course the cynical are saying Trade Me did it so they can clip the ticket on the Ping fee.

Thanks Callum. It doesn’t seem a very well thought out decision. It seems to be impacting many sellers. Also seems the change was only forced on in-trade sellers vs casual sellers, I would have thought being in-trade would generally provide additional assurances to buyers vs increased likelihood of being scammed by a casual seller.
I’ve never once had an issue with bank deposit, in over 10 years of selling/buying.
I guess I’m trying to apply common sense / logic to the decision, but perhaps just have to accept that common sense and logic doesn’t always apply to these decisions.
I guess I just need to accept lower sales are here stay as more restrictions are placed on payment methods available to buyers.3 -

My thoughts exactly, over 20 years buying an selling here, Bank deposit has always been fine, in what I buy and sell,
electrical goods etc, I would never ever buy on here, I go Instore buy new rather than trying to save a few $ dollars where trades may go sour,
it probably also comes down to type of items you buy & sell also, Some categories more than others Electronic / Phones would probably be the ones with most issues, as always hearing bad stories about them & phones etc. Maybe target those sellers, not little sellers selling 2nd hand used toys, 21 years over 20,000 trades 100% feedback, I am not a problem like many others, so why are I and others being punished with enforced Ping extra fees we cannot absorb?,
But in my books it is the the overseas sellers & casual sellers Ping should have been forced on, as some are shoddy, items not as described etc. goods never received, some take no accountability, they just want the money regardless who they hurt in the process, Ping should be forced in some categories with the higher issues, but not all, would have made it a fairer playing field,
Most Intrade Sellers have Integrity and put things right, advertise their items to best of their knowledge etc.
But forcing Ping & extra fees on us little stay at home sellers is literally taking food out of mouths, as not selling much at all in past couple of weeks?, Trade Me did not indeed put much thought into the bigger Picture, we are not all big Businesses that can absorb the extra fees, one shoe does not fit all, we all do not fit in the same box, Trade Me staff need to take their blinkers off to see the full picture,

I'm also scratching my head trying to apply some logic to sending 'payment instructions'. I've previously had payment instructions set to send automatically, but given Trademe no longer allow bank deposit, do payment instructions still make sense?
I guess if I add cash as a payment option, and then ask the buyer to deposit into my account, they have the payment instructions with the bank account details, all sort of defeats the purpose of removing the bank deposit payment option doesn't it....2 -

I have cash offered and still send Payment details automatically, (I use My Products) as have customers selecting cash so they can make a bank deposit, as per usually, as they do not want to use Ping, it is something they have not though through?, why take away bank deposit and still allow cash when we don't allow Pick ups?, seems some are good thinkers, as on auction my footer has not been totally changed and still states payment instructions will be sent automatically, so those that read it, will realize to select cash,
This is part of response days ago when I raised an issue, you can still offer cash, which I already do, so legally we are not doing anything wrong, so why the change from Bank Transfer?? yes I am still scratching my head over that too?,

Howold.
You seem to keep making these strange posts that don't seem to have much to do with the topic being discussed?

My two cents worth ...
I'm happy to use Ping and Afterpay but in some cases it just doesn't make sense. For example I recently won five auctions for two dollars each and had to pay for them separately. I contacted TM to ask if there was a way to combine those auctions before paying - there isn't.
Also, if you use Buy Now you have to pay immediately for the purchase to go through.
My thinking now is that if buy now is the only option and I want several items from the sane seller (I'm rebuilding my DVD/Blu-ray library) I'll send them a message and ask them to offer the items to me after auction (if not sold), so I can pay with one amount.
Trademe are thinking only of traders buying and selling single items. Also of course, not everyone has Ping or wants it.

Hi jan. In your case that is largely the sellers fault. Sounds like they haven't set up a system there for combining shipments. This is available to sellers. Not all use it of course. Which is their choice.
If you had purchased the 5 DVDs from me, you would have paid $2 plus $x shipping on the first one, then $2 + $0.00 combined shipping on the other 4. Then you could pay with Ping for the whole lot without any other interaction from me.

What I'm saying is that there was no way to combine the five auctions into one payment on Ping. (One was actually $8 to incorporate the postage.) I had to pay for each one separately. I know it can be done using the cart, but these were listings with no buy now.
The seller has been mucking me around too so I won't be buying from her again. If she'd sent me her bank details I wouldn't have had the problem. Actually I prefer to pay with Ping where possible - I just don't a whole string of tiny payments in my banking.

flossy63 Community SuperuserEditedCart does not work for everyone at all, we all sell different items, it is a nightmare for me, when buyers can buy 20+ items,no individual tick boxes on items to tick off when picking and packing orders, I have to double and triple check I have correct items, Items different sizes, so shipping unknown until parcel is physically packed & I have their address, and that is when I can confirm shipping and total to pay the old way, now I have to chase up extra shipping to be paid via Bank deposit, working out what they have paid what they have not paid, and not to add the fixed price offers they accepted to be paid via Cash/Bank deposit beforehand, before using buy now's and cart, it is just a mess and total nightmare, and so much more work,Us small stay at home nana sellers can not operate with a flat shipping rate, as we would just be giving away stuff, forcing Ping and cart is an absolute nightmare on some of us,Our bank deposit system worked just find for combined shipping etc. Buyer just needs to pay one Total after I have confirmed the combined shipping in accordance to address supplied,You need to wake up and think outside the bigger box, we are not all the same, you do not seem to understand others plight at all, WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT SELLERS, we are not all big businesses where flat shipping, Ping & cart works, it is not for all of us, Shipping rates can vastly differ between Islands for starters, and if they select the cheapest shipping on a very small bag, I could be asking for another $20+ for a box to go to other Island, as they may have brought bigger items too, I am sorry but my customers will pay actual shipping cost fair to all.I sell used items, a lot of my customers who are in organizations cannot use Ping, purchases need to be signed off by 2 people for a Bank deposit payment,I just want 1 Total complete payment in my account from one buyer regardless how many items they buy,0
