Ping, AfterPay and Cash now only options from November
Just received an email re the removal of Bank Transfer from 3rd November as a payment option.
TM had better educate the large amount of traders who don't like Ping as an option to buy - I personally love it for selling and buying.
Would love to hear your thoughts
Edited to add
Would be nice to actually have the "option" to have Ping rather than forced upon us. Cheaper of the two evils i.e. AfterPay - who actually is going to pay cash????

philkerri - There are quite a few people that should be 'In Trade" but are not. Have reported them multiple times and TM do nothing which anoys the hell out of me. They have gotton away with not paying fees for years.

flossy63 Community SuperuserYes a lot of us are so angry, I put most of my listings up on the 2nd for 10days before it was enforced with just bank deposit, had a dam good week when they closed, since Ping, it has totally been dead,It is false advertising By Trade Me that buyers prefer Ping, no most of mine prefer bank deposit, and a lot are now finding sales are dead, Think we proved a point, Get rid of Ping and Cart, I have had buyers ask to use bank deposit which they can if they select the cash option on auctions,2

flossy63 Community SuperuserI have been reporting one member nearly 8 years now in category I sell, they must have had some communication from Trade Me regarding the matter, as started hiding their listings on another account, but it appears that has been stopped, but still not Intrade??, it is not rocket science to see, as buy on same account, often see them bidding on more stuff to onsell,3

Philkerri I think I know who you mean and good on him. I was talking with him the other day and he is furious, he sells on behalf and does a massive job singlehanded with all the different types of stuff he sells and TM go and hack into the marginal commissions he makes? I sold an item yesterday for $2250 and they put it through Ping, which option I'd never selected and never would for items like this.Ultimately I cleared only $2000 for the $2250 sale - more than 10% as well as any fees so I contacted the buyer and advised I'd return his Ping payment if he agreed. Perhaps stupidly, Trademe also refunded their $132 success fee which I was quite OK with paying. There's no way to get in touch so no alternative. No doubt they're monitoring this discussion so maybe they'll contact me. I'll make it clear though - I do not want to use Ping unless voluntarily. .

flas2004 It might be a different seller as the one I'm referring to just sells books.

I see a few smaller In Trade sellers are also stating they do not accept Ping in the listing description, and good on them. How Trade Me think they can dictate how third party's pay each other and then clip the ticket is beyond me.
An example:
"Please do NOT pay by ping (Trademe won't let me turn ping off!) Cash or internet banking are fine, please read my payment instructions. Select cash so I will email you my bank details "

Text on one big seller's auctions reads "
CONDITIONS OF AUCTION' Auction must be paid for with in 3 days of auction closing
PAYMENT BY BANK DEPOSIT ONLY. I DO NOT ACCEPT CASH OR PING
ACCOUNT DETAILS WILL BE SENT AT CLOSE OF AUCTION" I agree.

I had a similar note. TradeMe informed me they would take action unless I removed it. I did so last night. For over 200 auctions. It was as fun as it sounds.
Anyways since this fee came in I’ve increased efforts to sell elsewhere and it is paying dividends.
Among other things I’m loading listings to an ecommerce site; and as I do so I increase the cost of the listing on TradeMe so it is more expensive. I sell vintage audio gear. Any customer who sees a listing on TradeMe and does a Google search to find reviews etc might well find my own site where it’s listed with the exact same listing text and photos for a cheaper price. So TM is a catalyst for a sale outside of TM.
Makes me snigger whenever that happens :-)

flash2004. That seller's items are all large items and bulk lots that couldn't be shipped. So pick-up only $1 reserve. Still you would have to wonder what would happen if a buyer DID pay with Ping........

That's at the moment, he sells up hairdressers, bicycle shops, all manner of defunct businesses and even individual b=perfume bottles which he sends out as well as vehicles, giggers, and other huge stuff. I bought a $100k machine off him once. Sure as hell wasn't paying for that with Ping. I have no idea how he finds the time to do all that single handed.

I don't think trade me realizes that sales are going to be down, due to less sales in that buyers can't pay by internet banking. Have they thought of that????? So that will be less fees rort for them as no one will be buying. Unbelievable in this day and age that you can't pay by internet banking! Not everyone has a credit card.

flossy63 Community SuperuserYes, my sales went way down, I have a lot of buyers that cannot use Ping as organizations that need 2 people to sign off for a Bank transfer,Had people using cart which has caused a major headache, not suitable for us little sellers whom sell small parts etc. mine is not set up as do not want to use it, someone put 20+ items in cart and expected it to be shipped for $6 my cheapest shipping?,another had no shipping, so it is just stupid as I still have to ask for the outstanding shipping to be paid via Bank deposit?,I have just listed some bigger items with no Buy Now's so no cart,Another big issue with cart is, if 20+ items in it, in my products sold there are no individual Tick boxes to tick & highlight them when picking orders, so so much more scrolling and checking them off, and then go to book a courier you have to scroll a mile to find the book a courier at the bottom, as there is 20 shipping options selected off every auction one after another, it is ridiculous, Cart is good for big sellers with flat rate shipping, 1-5 big items for e.g. but not small sellers where buyer needs to pay actual correct combined shipping, example below just keeps going & going, too much scrolling after 20+ buys, and staff dealing with our complaints do not understand what you are saying, they have absolutely no idea and responses are way off track, to point, I gave up, as talking to a brick wall so to speak, obviously they do not sell and use the site themselves, to see with their own eyes different issues that arise, Last E-Mail I did not even respond to as I would have started screaming, as just banging my head against a wall, some have no understanding at all,

Well done Trademe, you've priced your own customers out of the market. Traditionally you'd head to TM to get a better deal - I always have - than the stores but now probably not with their extra listing fees and Ping fees tacked on and needing to be recovered by sellers. An item on here cost including rural postage $153.64 and direct from a retailer's website $133.38 close to $20 more expensive on here. Some of that could be just one seller taking more of a margin than another but they're both major retailers so usually very much closer. Extra listing fees mean unless you promote and pay a fee for each relist using my products your photo doesn't appear in most views and you can't sell if you're invisible

I'm out of TM and these parasites. However when i try to close my account the useless AI just goes round and round in a loop so they make it very difficult to do so. Now they are telling me that an actual person will have to contact me to talk it through. I am sick of these guys.

This is from 2009, some of you may still have a copy of this email that did the rounds at the time relating to Instant Payment Options available and which ones' not to use.......Now it seems the worm has turned?
New Trade Me email scam doing the rounds
Thu, 10th Dec 2009FYI, this story is more than a year oldBy Staff WriterOnline auction site Trade Me is warning users that a scam email is being sent to recent bidders.
The scam is designed to solicit money from Trade Me users under the pretence of a 'fixed price offer' on an item that the user has recently bid on or asked a question about.
Trade Me has sent out an email warning to users detailing the scam and its methods.
"The offenders guess someone's email address and contact them regarding an item they have recently bid on or asked a question about,"says Trade Me.
"They pretend to offer the item for sale, request payment and may suggest completing the sale via SafeTrader.
"You're at risk of receiving this email because the first part of your email address matches your user name (e.g. user name 'Tom', email address tom@hotmail.com), and therefore it is easier to guess your email address.
Trade Me suggests the following to keep buyers safe:
Never pay by Western Union, Money Gram or any other instant payment method.
Check the email matches the information on your 'My Trade Me'page (i.e. the item is listed under 'Items I Won')
If you wish to complete a transaction via SafeTrader, create a membership and follow the instructions
Change your email address on Trade Me so it is different from your user name0 -
