Seller wants to increase price after auction closed
I won the auction and the seller immediately contacted me to "negotiate" as he was hoping to get a higher price. I did actually offer him a little bit more but he declined my offer and backed out of the trade (and then got nasty and demanded I refund his sellers fee).
I've never experienced this behaviour on any auction platform, but the seller seems to think this is business as usual. He accused me of "not having much experience (...) with trademe". Which is true -- I've only used the platform a couple times to buy things previously. But if he had a minimum price in mind, I would have thought he'd set a reserve? 🤔
I know this isn't the first auction he's backed out of in this way, I can see others reporting similar experiences in his feedback. Is this, as he says, really standard practice on trademe?

Hi Daniel. No not standard practice, and in fact it's completely unacceptable.
Don't agree to refund his success fee.
Do leave negative feedback explaining what happened.
You might also like to contact Trade Me directly to tell them what happened.

yes agree with Callum, that is not ok behavior, do not agree to the return of fees for the seller. I think they may need to have a read up on how to sell on TM

Kia ora Daniel, these members are right, this isn't the type of behaviour we expect of sellers. When you list something for sale you agree to let it go for whatever price it reaches on the auction, it's up to the seller to set a reserve price that they are happy with. If you reach out to the team on live chat someone can follow this up for you.

Thanks everyone. Michelle I tried that link but couldn't find a live chat option. I did actually send an email about this a few weeks ago, the customer support reference is 4732619. I got a reply saying appropriate action would be taken, but as far as I'm aware nothing's happened -- and the seller is now emailing me asking me to take down negative feedback. It doesn't really bother me but I do worry that he's done this before and he'll do it again to someone else.
