Aramex charging addresses as rural when they are not
-
Yes there are addresses that Aramex regard as rural and charge rural fees for their delivery. It is usually to addresses that Aramex do NOT service, and that they must hand over parcels to NZ Post for delivery (hence the extra charge).

Ok so why is it when buying from other online shops that use aramex as their shipping provider im not being charged as rural only on trademe??

Kia Ora Tania,
Alot of Sellers spread their shipping costs out on a pro rata to allow for the odd one which may come through with higher shipping costs than originally quoted. - This is a common encounter where shipping costs can change once the Actual sending address is known & both the Pick up to Delivery address's are calculated - Cheers.

Aramex have delivered to my house in their marked aramex van so if im outside of their urban delivery area why have they delivered to my address?? Im having vans come to my address delivering my parcels from other purchases and then online on trademe saying im not within their delivery area so im clasified as rural and they have to hand over to nz post therefore charging the extra makes no sense!!!

That would be extremely confusing for you Tania I agree, you are best to contact Aramex NZ direct with this enquiry and check your local delivery zone with them - Aramex Network Franchises are independently owned business owners or courier franchises, your local one is the best equipped to help you with this. - Sellers on TradeMe have no idea of your zone until they have entered both address's into the Aramex booking system therefore Aramex control the result here - All the Best - Cheers.

The best place to check how you are classed is the different couriers websites directly. They each change their zones regularly as routes change, but quite often you see variances as there are delays/mistakes between different courier companies when a route changes. It's not unusual also to get addresses that say RD, but come up as urban with Aramex or the Freightways group depending on their driver's routes, as well as visa versa.

Yes we get it all the time this needs to be looked into they take the money for nothing sellers need to change to nzpost. A trade me need to change who they use its preprogrammed with trade me

In response to the original question I have noticed that Aramex charges in some urban areas at rural rates. I enquired with them about it and they say it's when the address is not on a standard delivery route or within a zone that is routinely covered by an Aramex driver so if a driver from another zone has yo deliver to an unallocated zone then this would lead to that zone being charged at rural prices despite not being rural. Not much point fighting with sellers about it though as it's not them setting the rates. I usually ask for an additional $2 on top of what I quoted for which is Aramex and then send with NZ post instead when this comes up. I can see that the address shows rural rates with Aramex but not with NZ post so I know it's one of these addresses that's not in a rural zone but being charged at rural rates by Aramex.

Aramex Christchurch (local depot) does not classify my address as rural based on website data as well as phone call. Yet trademe sellers always ask me to pay surcharge. I do not know who makes the mistake or tries to earn an extra bit of money but it is frustrating and I personally do no longer pay for this. They deliver in an Aramex van so parcel is not handed over the NZ Post and thus the extra cost is not correct

Hi Johan,
When you put your address into https://www.addresscheck.co.nz/ what does it say for Aramex? I've found that there's a couple of reasons that this has happened when I've been sending items out. One which I detail above and the other being when the address details are not correct normally this is that the postcode is incorrect for the street address.

I recently bought an item of TM,sent my address to the seller who then came back to me to say that my address i gave was not recognised as an address that can be sent to,it’s an address i have used on plenty of occasions, and not rural,he’s with Aramex.I then asked the seller to send it to another address, also not rural as the seller won’t sell to RD addresses. He took it upon himself to then use my membership address which is an RD address and now wants me to pay an extra $7.70 postage.?? I don’t believe it’s on me & that he should have taken the time to query Aramex why they couldn’t deliver my purchase to the first address which is a street in the centre of Te Awamutu.??

I have the same issue with deliveries to Whitianga. A good sized town. Street delivery to our own letterboxes. Of the eight companies that deliver to my town, Aramex is the only one that charges a rural cost. Boycott them I say!! How do they get away with it??
