Questionable buyer emails
AnsweredGood afternoon!
I'm a new trader (I have had a trade me account before but have been away overseas) I listed my first item for sale and watched the bidding going on in the final minutes which then keep exceeding time, anyway I emailed the buyer within an hour, no response, then again, the following day, no response until day three/four, now I understand people are busy but if you can sit and bid on an auction I'm sure you can check your emails, what happened next was a bit weird, the email I got was straight out accusing me of being a scammer and he refused to pay without somesort of guartenee (total including postage was about $22) I didn't know what he meant or really what he even wanted, the emails were strange and almost of a threatening nature. Is this something that should be reported? I kind of feel like I was the one trying to be scammed!

Kia Ora Liz,
Sorry to read of that experience,
The winning bidder may have set an Auto-bid and therefore may not have been watching the listing close perhaps.
Yes! if the correspondence makes you feel uneasy or is directly out of control TradeMe like to be notified of these so they can investigate further - Refer to the Help section Reporting abuse or inappropriate behaviour – Help - Trade Me
Under these circumstances you are able to cancel the Trade if you're not comfortable going ahead with this person. The Terms written in your Listings are the sale & purchase contract - you are not required to provide any further guarantee, these questions are to be negotiated before the Listing closes via the Q&A section, fulfilling an extension of the contract for both parties.
All the Best - Cheers.

Hi Liz. That would make me uneasy too. As you say I would report them and send their emails to Trade Me as well. they have refused to pay so I would ask for a success fee refund and use the trade is not going ahead option. And blacklist them. I am sure Trade Me will back you on this one. Good luck!
