Adding a phone number in description
AnsweredI keep getting asked for my phone number on my listing for a general item. I tried to search the policy around this and came up with answer that if there is a field for a phone number, you can enter it (i.e. cars).
Anyway browsing around general items, I see a lot of phone numbers, email addresses & websites in the descriptions. These are both private sellers and in trade sellers.
Is it ok to include an email/website/phone number in the description? Will the account be shut down?
Am I supposed to report the listing? Will it actually get taken down? Will the seller know it is me that reported?
It is not fair to pay commission on every. single. sale. and yet someone with an item twice the price pays nothing!!

No it's not ok to give out contact details unless in the places especially for it like in classifieds etc but yes, plenty of sellers disregard the rules. If notified about it via Community Watch Trademe may take action and do say they may suspend your account.
Community Watch reports are between you and Trademe and your details are not shared with the other member.
It does take some time though. A while ago I came across a member that had over 1,000 listings with their email address and phone number in them and it took about 3 months of reporting before they got the message and stopped doing it.

Not supposed to do that. But it's been going on for ages, if you have the time and don't mind spending the time and effort, feel free to report them. Trade Me is not able to automatically detect them.
It's unfair, but it's also something Trade Me should be fixing, it's unfair to expect us to do their work.

Oh wow I would have thought they would have technology to scan for that & shut it down
Super unfair!!

I mean buyers were asking for my details to contact me outside of the platform but I was concerned it would appear that I was looking to dodge selling fees.
I do find it very odd that trade me isn't protecting themselves against this sort of behaviour as that undermines their entire business.

I like to inform a member that an item they were interested is now listed again. The item is
and the interested party was Monterosso.I want to inform them they can make their offer again.-1 -
How do I arrange to view an item--not a motor, not property--prior to purchasing if I can't give out my contact number or get the seller's phone number?

Basically you can't view a normal item before purchasing. You need to look carefully at photos, read the full description and ask questions if there is something you need more info on. Some sellers might let you win the bidding then allow you to inspect on collection and if not as described etc will refund you and cancel the trade, but you need to ask and arrange this before bidding/buying.

How to add "email seller" instead of adding my phone number in car listening?

Rym, the email the seller button is only shown on Classified listings, not auctions. Both listing types can optionally have a phone number displayed in the correct field, but only classifieds have Email the seller button.

Google lists 4 phone numbers for trademe and non are it. The poor people who own those numbers are being called constantly daily so she told me. Why is trademe letting those people be punished and not fix that, get it together trademe. Email service down. Running a auction is like pulling teeth. Wow can you make it any harder.
