Changing Category
AnsweredI just started a listing but put it in the wrong category, and it will not let me change to a different one. How do I do this please?

There are some categories you are not able to change from. Motoring is one. If you have listed in Motoring you have to stay within that. But otherwise you just hit edit this listing and you can change the category on the next page.
This is assuming it has no bids of course, if it does you can't edit a listing at all.

Hi Gail.
Instructions are the same as my previous post. Go to the auction in question, hit edit listing, and go from there.......

My Listing is in the wrong category. I listed it on Saturday to get the zero success fee discount, but the Trademe app placed it (a surfboard) into 'Hunting and fishing'. I have been able to change it (incorrectly again! to Surfing books) but now I can't change it to the surfing boards category which is where it should have been placed originally. Furthermore if I try and withdraw the listing (to relist it) your website tells me I may be charged a 'withdrawal' fee of $3??? Can this be rectified?

HI Greg. Not sure why you wouldn't be able to change that. Does it have bids? What error are you getting? If you are unable to do it on the app, try the desktop instead.
I am not sure if you will still get the free success fee if it sells. If it was an all items free promo it should still work. If it was tied to a particular category promo it won't. You certainly wouldn't get the no success fee offer if you withdrew it then relisted it.

Thanks Callum. Yes - I wanted to move it from one free selling category to another. There are no bids on it (there aren't even any views as you cannot find it even by searching?). When I try to change it I get the error in a red box: "you cannot change to a category with higher promotion fees" BTW - I'm happy to pay the diffenerence if there are higher promotion fees - but there is no option to do that?

Yes, books used to have a different fee structure. Cheaper gallery fee. I don't know if that is still the case. If you have paid some kind of promo fee there you might not be able to move it from there.
Your only option might be to ask Trade Me to move it for you. You could either go to Live Chat, or report your own listing and ask for them to move it to the correct category.

My listing was entered in the correct category but when I relisted it it defaults to an incorrect category which means my item will be lucky to be seen let alone sold.

Are you using the app Graeme? It's curious to me because I have never seen something defaulting to a category. I select the category at the first stage of the listing process and that's it. It stays there.

Hi Callum I see you say one can’t change in motoring category. I put my campervan in vehicles by mistake and can’t see how to change over, I am scared I will lose my selling fee which is quite high. I am not terribly computer savvy

Hi Valerie. Yes the motoring category is a problem because of all the different fee structures. So some items are "locked" where you have listed them. Otherwise people could list something cheaply then change it to a more expensive category. Your best bet might be to contact Trade Me via Live Chat and they could move it for you if it is possible to do so.

\Hi, I placed my listing for a de-registered car under 'specialist cars/ competition' but when the listing was started it had automatically been changed to 'cars for sale/ subaru'. How do I get it back to the category I selected, or can I get it cancelled/ refunded and list it again in the correct category for it?

Help! I have apparently listed MUD TYRES in a cycling category, rather than Motors. I cannot change the category. Wjat do I do? Thnks? Robert

Hi Robert. Short answer, you can't. You can't change items between these categories as they have different fee structures. You can wait for item to close then relist it in correct category. Edit the end time to hurry things along if you like.
