Advantages in becoming a Trade Me store?
AnsweredHi, just wondering what are the added advantages in opening a trademe store, other than having 150 free listings (up from 50) and being able to showcase your branding? It seems that fees remain the same for example?

It's all pretty much detailed in the Help pages here.

I signed up for a TM Store for free during a promotional campaign and they gave me a number of featured product combos (I think it was 10 per month) for free too. So for $79 is was an OK deal. Without the free combos I don't think I get much benefit from having a store so I will probably cancel it. For half the price you can open a Shopify website only only pay 2.9% fees and keep your Trademe business running too. It also depends on the scale of your business on TM. For a smaller business $79 might be a lot but for a large seller it's small change.

A lot has happened in the last year. It is now $800 to open a tm store. The fees have also gone up dramatically, and all the seemingly worthwhile extra benefits are being withdrawn one by one. In short, I did open a Shopify Store a year ago, however, it seems that trademe is still the place that most NZ people trust and buy from readily. Trademe has gone a long way in building up trust with it's customers customers.... It seems that trademe is heading to be the largest shoipping mall in the country, so I suggest to stick with trademe and maybe do another online business as well if you feel the need. Everyone is individual, every business is individual, everyone has to make their own decisions, including our customers, so at the end of the day the decision is yours.

If I was a still a TM store I would be really annoyed with the current change that is making it super hard for buyers. You find a listing while browsing a category, click in to it then click on View store to see their other listings, all good, you get the std old style desktop Trademe Store landing page like you always have.

You then try to sort the listings by highest Buy Now or whatever and it flips you to a really weird new Trademe Store landing page with the previously selected filter NOT applied AND without scrolling down it appears the store has no listings.

Then, you eventually figure out you need to scroll down to see the listings, and click in to one, to then have the whole roundabout repeated when you click to see the stores other listings. In fact, you only get to the new store page if you use one of the filters on the old desktop site store page. If you click on View store on the old site you stay on the old site.
As well as that, you have taken away the add to fav link on the old store landing page, but on the new store landing page the save store button still doesn't have a selectable frequency like you do for all other members.

I am thinking about opening up a store front, but I noticed that listings still expire. I list DVDs and I have over 1000 listings. Relisting them is a job in itself. Especially with the changes TradeMe has made to it's UI over the last year. If you have a store you now are not running auctions, so there should be no timer. Or just renew instead of relist. As in Renew All.

Kia ora Matthew, you might want to check out our listing tool, My Products. It's free to use and takes the admin out of managing listings as it relists your listings for you, you just need to keep track of what's sold and send those off. You can easily import your current, sold and unsold listings too so you don't have to start from scratch. My Products is not affected by the recent changes to the site. You can find help, tips and troubleshoot here on Trade Me Community, lots of members including our Superusers use My Products and are happy to share their knowledge. Here are some great tips from Gary-NZStocked on getting started.

Every DVD I list is it's own thing, so can't be considered my product, once it's sold its gone never to be duplicated.
So my next question. Can I change shipping prices for a multiple items at once? Because imagine this scenario, you have 1000 auctions and then the couriers up their prices, then going over all auctions and updating the shipping would be too difficult to comprehend.
One tactic I use here is I over charge on shipping so that when prices go up I am not out of pocket I lose out on the older auctions but my newer ones make up for it and I don't bother to update my auctions.
The details of the store system need a comprehensive youtube video, especially for the price. I basically want to know is how does a store reduce my labour, the little things that when added up are not so little that come with actually using TradeMe

Matthew, you seem to be getting a Trademe Store, and My Products listing tool mixed up. They are different independent items. My Products listing tool means you can create shipping templates and update 1,000 listings shipping options in a couple of clicks when prices change. You can use My Products for single items or multiples. There are many advantages to using My Products including... Automated auto relists, no charge for scheduled end time listings, bulk editing of a common footer, bulk editing of payment options, pricing and shipping, free withdrawls, stock control if you do have multiples, auto FPOs, etc etc.
A Trademe Store has nothing to do with My Products. You can be a TM Store without using a listing tool like My Products, or vice versa, you can use My Products or another listing tool, but not be a TM Store.
Stores have their own Help pages, and My Products has it's own too, including integration docs with step by step instructions you can download.

So in your case, Mathew, you’d set up "My Products", and each DVD would be listed as a separate product with a stock level of 1. With "My Products", you can also create a shipping template - this acts as your default shipping setup for all listings you link to it. You can update the template at any time, and the changes will apply to all new listings that use it. "My Products" isn’t perfect, but it’s free and does make a few tasks a bit less tedious.
NZ Post gives advance notice of price increases if you’ve got an account with them, or you can check their website for updates. That means you should have plenty of time to adjust your shipping fees before any changes kick in, which, lately, seems to be about every six months. Not that long ago I was paying $2.29 for a DLe size bag and now is $6.40!

Thank you Jon. That's good information you have given me. That's what I wanted to hear! Do you need a shop to have My Products I noticed there is a 'My Products' within 'My Trade Me' When I click on it I get this message "
An application would like to connect to your account
The application My Products and Tradevine by Trade Me would like the ability to:
- View your listings, watchlist and account information
- Edit your listings, watchlist and account information
- Place bids and use Buy Now on your behalf"
I am not too sure what that's all about.

Kia Ora Mathew,
No! you don't need to be a store to use My Products - My Products is available to Both In-Trade & Casual Sellers. - Tradevine & My Products are Both TradeMe's own inhouse products, they're not invasive they need to read your account & normal Listings to be able to list, offer FPO's & Relists automatically for you alongside many other beneficial tasks. - You're not signing up to any 3rd Party, it's all TradeMe - Cheers.
