To buyers: When do you want tracking details?
Looking to hear from buyers ideally.
Here is my situation, the courier collects parcels from me every work day at around 8am (not ideal, but it is what it is).
My question is, as a buyer, say you buy something at 9am, would you prefer to get the tracking number/link emailed to you right away (within minutes), with status "Tracking number allocated to parcel", with another tracking update the next day (not emailed, unless they've turned it on), saying it's been picked up. Or would you prefer the tracking details sent at say 5-7pm that day, after working hours.
My thinking is, if I send tracking at say at 9am, and the courier has already been, I feel I may raise buyers expectations that the parcel may go out that day, which it wont, not till the next morning. Even though, if the tracking link is clicked, it is clear the parcel isn't with the courier yet.
But I was thinking, maybe best to send tracking after hours, so it's clearer that the parcel won't be with the courier till likely the next day.

As a buyer, i prefer to get tracking info when it is booked as that confirms the seller has my order in hand as has arranged pickup, even if it is for the next day. Many sellers don't provide tracking till asked, and many don't email at all, so it is just a mystery until the item arrives.
As a seller, i email when an item sells and thank buyer for order and advise them they will receive email when courier booked and that i will place feedback when order is collected and and on the way. When courier has picked up, i place feedback saying so.5 -
Hmm, that's a good point about having stock on hand, didn't think about that. It's not always a given on TM.
It amazing me why some sellers don't proactively share the tracking. I even add mine into TradeMe, though I suspect few buyers realise the tracking shows up on there buy page. The odd time I forget to email tracking out, but did add it on TM, I still got email email from the buyer asking where the tracking was.
I wish TM had an option to send out tracking emails when a seller adds tracking. (not just via their own BAC system).
Anyway, thanks for the feedback Gary, really appreciate it.

I am same as Gary,
I am over chasing up sellers for Tracking numbers not knowing status of parcel, has it been sent yet, is it stuck in transit etc;
I would like Tracking number asap, so I can track once on it's way, and in morning's when I check my tracking numbers can see straight away, oh good it is getting delivered today (your parcel is on board with courier for delivery),
As a Seller I use Book a courier, so buyers get an automated E-Mail with Link and states what day it will be on it's way with Courier,
If I send using NZ post via Post shop bag etc, I insert Tracking number in provided area in My Products sold items which turns into a link and will show on buyers won item also so they can track,
Once my Items have been picked up by Courier I place feedback same day and remind them link to track can be found in their automated book My Courier E-Mail via Trade Me & on their won Auctions,
Please do not put tracking numbers in feedbacks, it can be a security issue for some, someone did it in mine last week, I contacted Trade Me it was removed very quickly,

Thanks Carol! Looks like sending the tracking right away is the way to go.
I agree with putting tracking in the feedback, bad idea. With some shipping companies you can even see the address the parcel was delivered to, so pretty bad idea to share your tracking number to the pubic.

From a seller's point of view (I hope you don't mind haha), I'd send tracking details as soon as the parcel is ready for pick up by the courier. That's when my job is done, the rest is the courier's job. If they don't pick up on time, it's still the courier's problem. I'll of course make sure the parcel goes out somehow (even to the extent of dropping it off at the post shop myself).
But if I delay sending the tracking details (even when it's already available), then that becomes my (the seller's) problem.

Haha all good, I knew getting pure buyers was a bit ask on here, where most will be sellers.
Yeah, on occasion I've given up waiting on a courier and brought my stuff to the post shop too. But luckily our current driver has been very consistent, albeit early, but I'd rather have him consist and early, then later in the day and missing some days. Our past drivers have been very hit or miss.

I do all my order's first thing in the morning. My Courier picks up between 8 and 9 am. That way when the buyer is reading their tracking email the items are usually on their way. I do tell the buyers if they have emailed, when their items will go out. I also state in my listings, that when they receive their tracking numbers they can no longer add to their orders.

Tracking? Haha good luck with that. Absolutely useless and just a gimmick.

Adriel mentioned above " I even add mine into TradeMe, though I suspect few buyers realise the tracking shows up on there buy page. "
Could they (or someone else) please tell me where on the WON page I could find these?
Under the old system it was easy but now the only options appear to be Place Feedback or View Listing.
Thanks, Lynnette

Do you know what the web address is for the new won page, or is it the same as the old?
old for me: https://www.trademe.co.nz/MyTradeMe/Buy/Won.aspx
My profile is still set on the old version (which I would like to keep, incase someone from TM reads this).

Web address for the new WON page is
https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/my-trade-me/buy/won
And yes, my profile is on the new version and I can't change back (unfortunately)
Cheers for the reply : )

Hmm weird, yeah I can't find the tracking details anywhere on the new page either :(
I've left feedback to TradeMe, hopefully they'll add it back. Seems like a strange thing to leave out.
All I can suggest to you is to do the same, hit the "Tell us what you think" button near the bottom of the page.1 -
Thank you : )
Will do

I find if they don't add tracking, they never send you your item.

The problem Peorke is that Trademe no longer show the courier tracking details on the new site even if the seller adds it. No idea why they don't but luckily I still have access to the old site so I can see the link to click for tracking in case the seller has not emailed me.

My theory is they axed it because most buyers didn't know it was a thing and not enough sellers made use of it.
Of course TradeMe could've made it clearer to buyers, but chose not to.
Maybe one day they'll reintroduce it in the new UI one day, in a better form.
