Traders That Should Be In Trade
Is there actually a department that looks into this because I can see lots of traders that clearly should be In Trade? See them purchase and resell and with little effort, I can find this information. I regularly report them (up to once a week some times), some I have been doing for months and nothing gets done. Very unfair the rest of us have to pay the higher fees.
I then get an email from a friend of mine last week saying that they got put In Trade overnight one night. No questions, no communication just a message saying they have been put In Trade. They are just selling their own stuff. Seems very inconsistent. They have since applied and are no longer In Trade by why is this happening and why should they have to justify it when others get away with it.

Hello crystal69
Yes! Trade Me are currently doing sweeps and turning on in-trade for sellers that they think should have it. This seems to be triggered by number of listings and / or value of sales.
I have been reporting many that are in-trade but not disclosed. Like you have experienced I've had mixed success. Sometimes it does take a few weeks of getting in Trade Me's ear before they take action. I think they first allow the seller some time to do the right thing themselves. Then act if they don't.
Don't forget that it's actually Commerce Commission that polices this. If you have no luck with Trade Me you can also report the seller to ComCom. I've had success doing this when Trade Me seem to be not interested or too slow.
A THIRD option is to ask the seller yourself via Q&A. Some genuinely have no idea about it. The ones that ignore you or try to wriggle out of it are the ones I think are worth reporting.

Kia Ora crystal69,
There is a current uptake in accounts having the In-Trade badge turned on indicating a possible sweep of checks is being processed. The Commerce commission actively monitor for In-Trade status compliance & TradeMe have a legal requirement under the Fair Trading Act. The volume and regularity of your friends Sell through rate and condition of their goods for sale may fit a definition of In-Trade Or another Member may have reported them, common with market competitors of like products.
There are a few Posts around of the same discussion and I see you raised this back on 23 June 2024
In Trade Sellers not listed as 'In Trade' – Help - Trade Me
There are further if you run a search through community Help pages. In my experience when I add more specific details of the Listing(s) these are processed quicker than a broad overview statement, it is more time consuming though leads staff directly to the issue in all places rather than them having to search a bit themselves. - Cheers.

There were some traders I was reporting to TM for near on a year before anything was done and they were selling a huge amount. Was more frustrated that they were getting away with not paying the same fees.
I have been through feedback and see them buying and then reselling so they clearly know what they are doing.
Don't think I could question them directly myself.

Yes I hear you. It's even more frustrating now that they don't pay ANY success fees. I think this is why Trade Me have started automatically switching it on for some traders.
Of course without a human casting their eye over things that's not always a perfect solution. Genuine casual sellers like your friend do get caught out when they are doing a house declutter or estate sale. There is someone on here that has been hit twice. Trade Me turned it on, then turned it off, then on, and off again.

Yes, I hear you, as once again on personal account reported one again today, another issue with wrong date on Chat Bot?, as for last 8 years, and now using another casual account to hide stuff on, including new stuff as early last year used another casual account which soon got stopped, but now at it again with another 2nd casual account,
I see them buy and sell in same category, a category (I browse regularly),

It's a pain when one is trying to sell brand new items that have never been used that one has been given to.
Not helpful to anyone trying to downsize or have genuine household cull of belongings when people suggest to others to search only "used" items.
Trade Me need to sort out there Act and stop relying on AI, this is so obvious with Drop Dumping of goods in NZ that should never have made it through Customs let alone how have some these people opened Bank accounts in NZ?
Perhaps they are the ones who use FINTECHS for trade and helped push the removal of a NZ Bank account system whereby the average person has had Due Diligence undertaken adding to our credibility.
