Hello snaxnz
It's all a bit convoluted, especially for casual sellers. It's a bit more known for -in-traders. Basically as you say, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. It's tied up in whether your listing has been made in the old system or new. Sometimes even that seems to not be a reliable indicator. Basically I think we just have to put up with it until things have settled down and everyone is on the same system across all categories.

I am glad it has stopped on my Intrade account, as I had serial blacklisted members as watchers, whom could never buy, whom just seemed to stalk my auctions?,
but when auctions had been deactivated In my products, they wasted so much of my time when I was making manual fixed price offers only to find the same Blacklisted watchers, one was watching nearly every auction,
Now they only show genuine new watchers,

The problem is Flossy63
They have now removed Sellers choice to see who is Watchlisting so makes it worse to establish just who is lurking.
We are sure you too have had Watchers who have selected items just in case the item they are after is not listed.
It's senseless we consumers are denied access to seeing who is interested and form our own decisions.
We get it and understand where it's a Live Property purchase they have such a restriction, but for 2nd hand items it's beyond belief and stupid

Edit
The problem is Flossy63 , ( comma inserted ) they have now removed etc.
Gosh hope you didn't think we were blaming you Flossy63!

flossy63 Community SuperuserWhat on earth are you going on about?, and why tag me?, really? You are obviously not a seller and do not see the bigger picture that we do and issues FALSE WATCHERS CAUSE !!!!,now they have been removed life is better, we only get genuine new watchers now,not watchers that have no idea they are still watching?, no Blacklisted watchers rolling over that can never buy, and likely some watchers have not been on trade me for weeks / months, but just keep rolling over with the relists, it was just rubbish,Edited in line with Community guidelines1

In my opinion..and as person who followed probably ten pages of items at any one time in the past..that maybe someone as such was ' a stalker'..is just so preposterous.. as if you were the subject of such watching..get over yourself...
No..it is the general market and what happens with what is and what isn't moving as far as sales go.
If your item is watched..then we'll done on you for having such items to list ..that they garner interest as such..and not only to your credit..but also to your benefit as the number of watchers the more the merrier increases your algorithm popularity..so you instead gain benefit of those watchers in sales eventually....and maybe those people eventually buy from you..you don't know what their priorities are or their economy really purchases. .just speculating what reasons are for them to watch any listing to begin with..regardless if they even bother to notice who is selling them.
..stalker !?..yeah nah-1 -

I often watch others items..to help their algorithm popularity..to in effect help their sales...sometimes, because I like them also as sellers...and also what they sell...if I can even be bothered to do so.

That's interesting snaxnz. Have you read or heard somewhere that adding an item to watchlist increases it's search results popularity somehow? I've never seen that confirmed by Trade Me. But I guess it could be possible.
I sometimes get a boost in sales when items sell. So an item that I've had for a while without movement will sell, then another, then 2 or 3 , then it kind of snowballs. I think this could be around google algorithms and search popularity on there.
