Kylie, yes shill bidding is definitely not allowed. Hopefully the seller won it themselves and forgot to withdraw their top bid just before it finished. If you see if they have any other listings and use the Community Watch link on one to let Trademe know, else use the Contact Us link at the bottom of any page.

Kia Ora Kylie,
TM's Safe buying advice - Examples of suspicious behaviour
& Trade Me site terms and conditions clause 3.3
Examples of suspicious behaviour
If you notice any of the below examples, please let us know immediately.
- Request from the seller to complete the trade offsite.
- Request from the seller that the buyer pay into an overseas bank account, or via funds transfer (e.g. Western Union).
- Item photos and descriptions are directly lifted from another website.
- Multiple memberships are created to push the bidding up (known as 'shilling').
- A low bid is placed, and then a second person places a much higher bid which is withdrawn at the last minute so the low bid wins (known as 'bid shielding').
No shill bidding: Shill bidding is when someone (including family, friends or employees) tries to manipulate price, desirability or search position by placing fake bids. We want Trade Me to be a trusted marketplace and therefore shill bidding or any other dishonest behaviour or bidding practices, are not allowed on Trade Me.
- Cheers.
