Sending Poster Tubes
AnsweredDoes anyone have advice on sending poster tubes or a recommendation on who to use for shipping these things, given the unconventional shape? Obviously "Book A Courier" doesn't have the option on tubes. I notice the specialist poster sellers on TradeMe have prices in the $7-10 range which seems low unless they get a discount for volume or such like. Thanks.

A tube is really best measured just like a box, unless you use the sending on the NZPost website where they have a specific Tube rather than parcel rate. Just pop the dimensions in with a few dummy bookings for different couriers and see how they look. There are idiosyncrasies with them all. I do most of my NZ Post/courier bookings outside of TM's system as it's cheaper, but every now and then a particular size box is cheaper on here to send, same with Pass the Parcel. Shop around and get some ideas, and also if you think the shipping is too much and you think it's going to put buyers off, add a bit more in to the base price if possible so the total is the same, but the shipping is more in line with what others do, if that's what you want to do.
Just did a few comparisons for you Wayne
I've chosen a tube 42 x 10 x 10 and done a local vs inter island delivery. Same island not local is usually between the 2 prices.
BAC ( Trademe's Book a Couirier) NZ Post local $7.00 Inter Island $11.99
BAC Aramex Local $5.43, Inter island $10.17
PTP Local $5.45, Inter island 12.70
NZ Post via another system local $4.91, Inter island $16.26
NZ Post/Courier local Tube rate $7.00
NZ Post/Courier Same island Tube rate $11.20
NZ Post/Courier between islands Tube rate $31.20
You can see quite a variation. Rural surcharge also varies greatly between companies.

Kia Ora Wayne,
Not much help though a suggestion - you could ask a question of the other Sellers in the Q&A simply asking who the shipping company is so you can research further - Cheers.

Yes. NZPost has a dedicated tube postal rate. They had to add this years ago when they became aware tubed items were very overcharged when going purely on dimensions.
Go to their online portal select Tube and play around with their dimensions to get the rates for the items you are selling.

Hey folks really appreciate the advice from all of you, especially you Gary, that was above and beyond. Will sort out what I need in terms of tube size and go from there. Thanks again. :)

November 2023 and they still have no courier option for cardboard mailing Tubes. I tried using their chatBot but it kept responding as if I wanted a refund of success fees. I guess the TM I.T Dept are not up to the challenge. off to nzpost I guess. if they had a phone number so we could contact the TM courier company direct it would be helpful.

Kia Ora smooth,
Sorry to read you didn't find success through the bot - I too have been reporting issues with this However if you type 'Talk to person' in the bot window and enter your details as requested you will come to a "Live Chat" window in which connects you to a Real staff member for immediate assistance.
The manned hours weekdays are 9:30:am - 5:00pm and weekends 9:30am - 4:pm
- Cheers.
