Buy Isn't responding
AnsweredHi,
exactly two weeks ago now I sold an item to a buyer and have been in contact with the buyer though email about payment and shipping. They told me they would pay it last week but haven't yet. I've tried to follow up with them but they haven't responded. What should I do?
I have read the "Problems communicating with the buyer" article and its says I should contact trade me but when I go onto the link it has for that it doesn't actually take me to anywhere I can contact trade me. I'm am a little lost as to what to do here.

Hello Sarah. The usual thing to do is request your fees back (This will trigger an email from Trade Me to the buyer reminding them of their obligations.) You can leave feedback, neutral or happy asking them to get in contact. You can change it later either way. If they have auctions themselves running you can ask questions there.
If still no action after your fee refund has been approved then the usual leave negative feedback and relist the item is the next step.

Sorry to read you've been left in Limbo there Sarah,
TradeMe have added the extra step to contact them prior to submitting a Success Fee Refund just recently to enable them to contact the Buyer on your behalf first in attempt to get the Trade back on track, when you select the Contact us from within the 'Problems communicating with the Buyer' page a blue Chat bubble should appear at the bottom right of your screen page, as below...

Once selected enter in the Chat window Talk to person below the Bot text suggestions, next to the paperclip icon, to be transferred through to the staff line. - Enter your Listing number in the chat window also, enabling staff to pull it up readily.
The Live Chat manned hours weekdays are 8:00am - 5:30pm and weekends 9:30am - 4:pmAfterhours you can leave a detailed message through the same path and a staff member will email you back during manned business hours. - Cheers.1 -

This is my standard process. If no payment is received after a week, I send a follow up email. This sometimes gets the buyer to pay. If no payment or contact after another week I request my fee back via TradeMe. This sometimes gets the buyer to pay. If still no payment and th fee refunded, then I relist and place negative feedback. This also sometimes gets the buyer to pay.

I'm similar AJ, although I add another step just to be sure all possible ways to contact the buyer have been completed. Leave positive feedback reminding them they haven't paid and to check their emails. That positive feedback mentions I will change it to negative if they still don't complete the trade or respond.

Out of interest Callum, how often does the step of adding the feedback yeild a payment? Ive always been of the opinion that the negative feedback at the end has more impact as its negative. So curious to know if the step helps

Hello AJ I can't tell you for sure, but I have had a couple of buyers say "Oh sorry, your emails went to spam, but the feedback prompted me to realise I had forgotten about this trade"
So it's just another step you can add in to be sure you have tried every way possible to contact your buyer. It takes a bit more work as you have to make a note on a calendar or something to change it to negative down the road if they still don't come thru with payment.

Thanks Callum. I'll look at incorporating that step. I dont think I'll need the calendar reminder re changing the feedback as I normally place feedback after the fees have been refunded, so I'll just change it when that comes through.

Kia Ora AJ,
Emailing your Buyer for the first time after a week is a very long time to wait, I'd be emailing them first on the third day if no communication has commenced to speed this along - the email from TradeMe can also prompt action quicker if there's no response to placing the first feedback prompt. - 2 weeks is a long time for a listing to drag out. - Cheers.

It works for me. I dont get too antsy about it. TradeMe allows buyers to pay in a week so thats why I dont follow up until.then
