When to open a dispute

Hello Laura. Open a dispute now. You can cancel it later if things are resolved.
I'm not saying it's the case here but some unscrupulous sellers have been known to stall buyers so that the dispute time-frame closes and they can't use it.

You didnt say how long ago you brought it, but you do have a limited timeframe to do this. Have you gone back to them to state you want a full refund? Id do ths and if its well within the timeframe, Id wait until the next comms from them and go from there. If its close, Id lodge it now. Note that under the cga, refunds are only given under certain circumstances.

It has been a very recent purchase, so I’m well within the time frame of opening a dispute. I have told them I would like a full refund and to send the faulty item back, they have replied with a 50% refund and I get to keep it. I essentially have a very expensive and large paperweight. Last I have heard from them was Friday with what I feel is a copy and paste reply. I do believe they are using stalling tactics

Kia Ora paua22,
No! That's not correct - it's the Seller who refunds you as it's the Seller you've paid regardless of how you've paid by and who has pulled out of the Trade. - You haven't paid TradeMe.
A Seller is not obligated to refund if the Buyer pulls out of a Trade due to a change of mind. - In this case the Buyer should still be in receipt of the goods.
You can point your Seller to the Help file I'll reference you to below which also includes a link for you to follow through to filing a dispute which is recommended if this is not a change of mind purchase as the dispute time frame window is limited depending on how you have paid. - All the Best.
