Items I Won Page Shows Incorrect Sales Price

Hi Cam I feel for you and any others who have been locked into the new look Trade Me site I am dreading the day it happens to my Trade Me account. I don't understand if Trade Me has removed access to the desktop version for certain members and that member is having issues with the new look sites functionality why Trade Me can't reinstate access to the desktop version for that member until they sort out all the issues the new look site is having but that maybe beyond the capability of Trade Me I don't know.

Can affected members use a site like BidBud to get some sort of normality back on their Trade Me account even if just for the short term until the current issues are fixed as Trade Me seem to be struggling to get on top of all these issues that keep arising. Although I do note the creator of BidBud has indicated their site may not be around much longer due to the upgrades Trade Me have been making which would be a real shame as I have found BidBud to be great over the years.

That's quite a strange one Cam (changes in the won price) I haven't heard anyone else mention that before. Do you happen to have a screenshot? Or an auction number to check out? I'd be interested to see what could be happening there.

Please don't judge the brony-ness of these items used as an example. The tool stuff I brought in a combined shipping order is even more messed up but it is an older purchase so I tried to post a couple of the most recent. Shown are following issues:

No Seller Payment Information Available: The pay link which only appears on some listings, but not on most, goes to a ping with the wrong payment cost, incorrect details and no seller bank details available which means the seller has to be contacted directly to get payment information.

Incorrect Prices Shown: the bidding won values were vastly different to the values shown in the won list and they do not represent the addition shipping cost as that was different for both single courier, single arranged & combined shipping orders. A big issue when the payment values are incorrect.

No Seller Contact Information: The seller details are no longer visible.

Reference Number and Name Cannot Be Selected: The entire div has been made a link that prevents the user from being able to select and then copy the reference number or sales details.

Notes Cut To Be Near Pointless Size: Removes note functionality & readability defeating the purpose of making them.

No Ability to Raise Or View Dispute Information: This is a critical part to the ping payment guarantees so it reduces access & features of Ping payments & trust in TradeMe

No Visibility of Address Information Set and No Way to Access Address Information: This means address information cannot be checked or sent to the seller, address information not being able to be confirmed from won item list is a big issue as you cannot tell which one has address information and which one does not.

While there are a lot of issues with the New Look I am trying in this thread to focus on the one that is the most deceptive against buyers and is designed to cause over payments and payment faults.

Hi Cam. Both those items show the item cost plus shipping cost. So those are correct?

1st example $8.00 + $6.90 = $14.90

2nd example $25 + $7.00 = $32.00

You mention that there is sometimes no seller payment information available. Don't forget that a seller might not have set this up. If they haven't then it won't be showing.

Hi Callum, Sorry no, those are not the correct costs. The totals of the item price are 8 & 25 but the shipping is not. So the item won cost is incorrect in the list and the shipping cost (which is a separate charge and not representative of the cost for an individual item) is also incorrect. So the New Look style makes it look like the auction completed at the won price of 14.9 & 32 which is incorrect as that is not the price of the items brought. In the New Look style there is no option to select or view shipping & address information and in ping the details are completely obfuscated so it is fraudulently overcharging users for items but not paying correct shipping either. By hiding these details from users and reporting incorrect values TradeMe is directly breaching the Fair Trading Act. 

The Fair Trading Act (FTA) exists to:

• promote fair competition
• make sure consumers get accurate information before buying products and services
• promote product safety.

The FTA makes it illegal for businesses to mislead or deceive you and requires them to make sure the information they provide is accurate, and that they don't withhold important information.

I guess it could be clearer that the shipping cost is included, or even have the 2 costs separated to give the total. But the price shown is the total price paid.

Your previous post said that the cost is not correct and doesn't include the shipping cost. But it does. I've added a screenshot showing your first example. $8 for the item $6.90 for the shipping Total $14.90. That is what you paid. That is what is showing. Your second example is the same. $25 for the item $7 for the shipping Total $32.

No that is not the total price paid and it is not the price paid for the items. By charging those prices trademe is overcharging users intentionally and by listing those prices instead of the true win price it is intentionally deceiving users as those are not the item costs and are not the costs for the order (the shipping was a completely different price not equivalent to those you have listed).

I guess if you want to mislead customers and falsely charge them via ping then Trademe can continue breaching the Fair Trading Act as that is the actual def of what not to do in the act.

I don't know how I can make it clearer but by adding the false and misleading charges that are not the true shipping cost, (none of those costs listed were the costs paid for shipping the total order), without showing them clearly the false charges being added to the auction item cost TradeMe is directly misleading and overcharging buyers. 

Also the sellers had set up payment information, (they confirmed it themselves and I have traded with them before). They are still able to access the old style so they are confused why I cannot see the details.  Trademe is intentionally not showing the bank payment information or seller contact information or address information for trades via the new look design. Trademe no longer can be trusted to show the sold price information in the New Look website please can you let me know the won price for each item, the shipping cost and the total price for payment including shipping. Trademe also no longer shows the payment information in the New Look design website, please can you let me know your bank account number and the name associated with the account. Thank you.

I think I set address details but Trademe New Look no longer shows this in my won list or what details have been set so I have added it here:

It is sad that there clearly was no user testing and no basic testing of the New Look style and they are in direct breach of the Fair Trading Act by hiding and removing information from the view of buyers.

It takes less then a couple minutes to lodge a case with the commerce commission and I would advise this as the New Look changes get much much worse once you are forced onto New Look without the ability to return to old/desktop style. Most functionality of the site is removed and many family and other users will & have been mislead/tricked by the exceptionally dodgy design (and since they will struggle to make reports it is good to make reports early so it prevents further harm to others as well): https://comcom.govt.nz/report-a-concern

Cam have you used the live chat option to talk directly to a Trade Me staff member about the issues you are seeing it is likely to be a system glitch and not any sort of attempt to deceive members the upgrades Trade Me have been doing recently have caused many issues across the site.

Live chat is available by clicking on the contact us section at the very bottom of any page then select the blue chat option on the bottom right side of that page ask to speak to a person and you will be connected to a staff member who can look into the issues you have encountered. Live chat will be available again from 8am Monday morning when staff are back online.

Kia ora Cam, I've sent you an email, this looks like it could be a bug.

Kia ora everyone, update on this one, I've had a look into this and it's not a bug. The new-look sold page does combine the item sold price and shipping, so that sellers can easily see for buyer to pay.

This is obviously different if the buyer selects 'Arrange shipping with the seller', then only the item sold price is displayed.

You can click through to the listing to see just the sold price, or deduct the shipping cost which is visible from the sold page.

The sales summary is not affected, only the item sold prices are on there.
