Using and accessing Trade Me account whilst travelling overseas?
AnsweredHi all - I've spent countless hours trying to find any advice or guidance, and clearly need to brush up on my searching technique and now resorted to asking this question - can I access (to bid/buy) my trademe account overseas??
I noticed a previous post which suggested advising trademe of travel plans? but who exactly? the bot and guides aren't particularly helpful in this specific case.

Kia Ora Nicole,
When you get to the bot type in - talk to person - you will be taken to entering your details before arriving at the window to Chat with a Real Person/Staff.
The manned hours weekdays are 9:30:am - 5:00pm and weekends 9:30am - 4:pmThis is so Staff know it is you accessing your account from overseas and a block isn't put on the account - Cheers.0 -

Would be nice to get an answer that it is indeed possible. This question does come up from time to time. It might be destination dependant. Australia? No problem. Nigeria? Hmmmmm

I have always advised Trade Me when I travel overseas,
Last time was via Chat, Talk to person,
They can then get it noted on your account, even with dates you are away, so they know it is not suspicious activity,
But it is known there are some countries you cannot access Trade Me at all,
way back on the old message boards years ago, there were stories of members being blocked as they had not informed Trade Me, they would be accessing their account from overseas,
So it always pays to let them know.

Ok, an update on this subject, a couple of days ago I was speaking to person on chat, asking for a note to be put on my account for later this year, they gave me incorrect information saying no, you cannot use Trade Me overseas, did not even ask where I was traveling too?, as we know some countries like Australia are fine!. but still get note put on my account for time period when I will be accessing from there,
I sent a message later to ask if rules had changed?, an experience knowledgeable old hand got back to me yesterday and it is all cleared and ok, noted on my account, not Australia, further north! So can set up new auctions etc. in my products while alone at hotels in evenings, as working on doing the photos slowly now, as also have a back log from months ago still to do,
I have discussed this with the team and we will add a note to your account, can you please confirm the exact dates you are away so I can make sure I have added the correct ones for you. We also recommend that you login before you leave NZ and stay logged in so you aren't logging in from overseas as a new login.
If you do arrive and need to log in and are having trouble doing this. this could be to do with our security features and we won't be able override this.So always go through correct channels and ask, If you get someone that is not helpful and is very unsure, try again, yes some staff have more knowledge that others in different areas,

Yes, different staff you get different results, but with us long time users, we have background knowledge,sometimes you need to follow things up if you don't think the information you get is 100% correct.Yes, rules do change overtime, but there is no information on site about this?,But as we know from the old boards, peoples accounts have got shut down, as had not asked or advised Trade Me oftheir intentions of using site while overseas, as they say if you do not ask you do not get,Don't ask expect your account to be locked while overseas as some countries are absolutely banned,0
