Donating sale proceeds to a charity
AnsweredHi
First time post and not sure if this is the right forum or category.
A friend gave me an item for free as they didn't want the hassle of selling it. Item turned out to not be suitable for me so I don't want to keep it but wouldn't feel comfortable about making money of something she gave me.
So we talked and decided I would sell it and we would donate the amount to a charity (ideally Westpac Chopper Appeal).
Is there a function on Trade Me for the proceeds of the sale to automatically go to a chosen charity? And also hopefully lower fees so that more of the sale price gets to the charity?
Thanks

Narlene, a very nice thought there. It is possible to register as a charity to get lower fees, but you need to be a registered charity to do that. I would be inclined in your case to wait for one of the fee free listing days, make a note in your auction saying what you are going to do with any proceeds of the sale, and then you yourself make the donation after the sale goes through.

Oh yes, definitely not interested in registering as a charity. Your suggestion was what we thought of initially, but wondered if people would worry that we were just trying to boost the price with no intention of donating (though we'd provide a receipt of the donation). Would be awesome if Trade Me had a function like described.

Contact Trade Me, and say you want to run a charity auction for said organization,
if approved there will be no fees and trade me will promote it too,
I ran an auction for a registered charity earlier this year, which Trade Me approved, and I personally handed over the cash,
and had this first line of auction

You may want to tick one of the donate options that are on the last page when making a listing too. They don't have Westpac, but if there is a success fee it might mean something goes to one of the listed charities too.
