Cheapest Shipping Service outside of Trade Me?
AnsweredI run a small company and have settled for using the BAC for Trade Me sales and website sales, but would rather find another service that provides best pricing for the website without BAC here. What does everyone else use? I live rural where only NZ Post is an option. Ideally, I'd prefer to do everything elsewhere without BAC so everything is in one place.
I have asked NZ Post, but they require large numbers to get discounted rates. Is there another service that uses NZ Post and offers cheaper rates than going direct?

Hi. I live Rural too. But am very happy with using NZ Post. I find I am happy with my rate. I do find it is sometimes hard to find the correct address on the odd one, so I will pay the extra rate and use BAC.
Also if you don't use a shipping label you created after 7 days it autumnally get refunded. Very handy to print all courier labels in one go rather than 1 at a time.

I use iShipping for booking NZ Post for TM and non TM sales. Has integration with TM and some ecommerce sites for those and non TM sales so pretty straight forward. One button instant cancellation too in case you need to cancel and rebook differently. I recommend them.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for that, I appreciate it.
The postage options for the preset sizes, are they for if you already have purchased the NZ Post Bags or iShipping Bags? Do you need to use the "custom package" size if you have all your own plain courier bags? A custom size with the same preset DLE size is 2x the price. I guess I should just contact CS.

I use Vertical Logistics from time to time. They do international as well as domestic. I have a feeling they have their sights on the larger players these days but I was involved from the start so I guess they let me trundle along. They use NZPost courier product. Pricing is obviously different for everyone, but for me they have sharp prices on A4 sized bags, and 5kg between and within island tickets. They offer e-ship or prepay purchases of tickets and bags if you prefer to do it that way.

The iShipping prices listed are just a guide. Currently I pay all inclusive $4.72 DLE, $5.33 A5, $6.53 A4, and a big user for me is $7.22 FS size. Local boxes $5.22. The prices are using whatever plain courier bags you like as long as they are in the usual sizes. Custom package is usually for boxes or bags that don't fit anything in the presets, plus you can save a custom size so it shows in the list to choose easily if it's a common size. I usually use PTP for A4 as it's a bit cheaper although depends on address and time of day as PTP comes for me before 7:30am where NZ Post comes between 11 and 1. Both come back later in the day too, although I don't bank on it.

Thank you so much for the help Gary, and Callum for your answer too.
The only thing about the rates is that the height for most options are below every single item I place in the bags. Does it matter if they're more? BAC doesn't have any height restrictions.

Really a bag is a bag. I never look at the height as it is immaterial. All that matters is the bag length and width, not what thickness anything inside is as that is constrained by the bag. 130mm wide bag effectively gives you 260mm circumference.

Okay, that's great news for my business then. I got excited, and then disappointed when I noticed the height measurement. Increasing that to X cm puts the price at $10.67 even if the dimensions are identical. Makes sense for what you mentioned earlier, how it's more for a box that doesn't fit a preset bag size.
ishipping is just a service, parcels go through NZ Post just the same as they would if going through BAC I presume?
Now I can start providing free shipping over $100! just like other stores, this will surely help for Christmas sales.
Thank you very much for your time :)

The other great feature on iShipping is that I can select "drop off". This isn't an option on BAC and was always a hassle booking returns where the customer didn't want a courier pick up. I can also ship a replacement product and include a return label with the drop off option. This is much better, I'm so happy.

Yes, there are many agents that offer NZ Post courier bookings. iShipping is one. The other handy thing on the final step before you confirm, you can edit any of the sections eg address, size of bag/box individually rather than having to go back through several pages. You also get the option on the final screen to download the label for printing or select print so it opens directly in the print dialogue. Glad that helped.
