Item didn't match description - seller won't respond
AnsweredI've tried multiple times to email the seller but received no reply. I've also been through the Trademe disputes mechanism. Trademe has recommended I go to a Disputes Tribunal. In this case, the item is clearly not as described in the listing. Trademe does not appear to have done anything to sanction the seller. Trademe didn't even tell me what the seller said or if the seller responded at all. How is that a dispute resolution mechanism? Is there any other option available? The item wasn't particularly expensive but it's a principle thing. Does Trademe sanction a seller in any way? They still have listings. This wasn't a ping or afterpay transaction.

Hi Barney. Yes, Trade Me does things behind the scenes in these cases. They can put notes or strikes on their account. So further complaints can trigger further actions. Also if you do go to the DT, and are successful, Trade Me ask that you pass that info on to them. A legal decision against a seller has more weight than if you or I make a complaint.
Don't forget you also have the option of feedback on the seller to warn others. I assume you would have already done that.
As far as other options, if you don't want to go down the legal route via the DT you can often find further contact details for the seller and follow those up. Just a matter of how hard you are prepared to work for it. Nearly impossible to hide these days. All the usual tricks apply. Google, electoral rolls, phone books, social media, buy something else and select pick-up to get an address, contact previous buyers etc.

Kia Ora Barney,
Sorry to read this has happened to you,
As Callum has advised and TradeMe can't report back to you with any restrictions they may impose on your Seller as this would be in breach of the Privacy Act.
Is your Seller 'In Trade'? - Is it possible this is a registered business company? If you think they may be you can look them up on the NZ Companies Register to possibly obtain contact telephone number(s) and physical address. - Cheers.1 -
Thanks for your responses.
