Buyer Wants to Try on Item Before Buying
Hello,
I just want reassurance that I'm not being unreasonable. I am selling a ball gown for <$150, with a lot of photos and as many measurements as I can think of on the listing.
Someone contacted me a few weeks ago wanting to view it before buying. I told her that she should "buy now" and then come to view, and if she didn't like the dress, I wouldn't hold her to going through with the trade. I don't want to put my contact details on a listing as this is against TM T & C, and for privacy reasons.
I heard nothing further, have been relisting the item each week, and last night the same person contacted me, now wanting to try the dress on before buying. I don't particularly want a random person inside my house trying on the dress.
I would welcome other people's thoughts on this, please.
Thank you

Your first response to their question was absolutely right. Just answer the same way again.

Kia Ora Rebecca,
I'm with Callum on this one - you have been generous in offering for the trade not to proceed if they aren't keen on it on viewing. Sharing contact details on listings not only gives you a black mark against your account with TM you open yourself up to scammers who scan for this info'. - I can understand the request However you are Not a store fitted out with changing stalls therefore the option is view only - you don't want to add cleaning of garment charges ontop as a result of 'Try before you Buy' - Keep a copy/screenshot of these questions and answers just incase they are required. - Buy Now and come for viewing is a good response. - Cheers.

Yes, your first answer is fine, and stick with that, as long as they are not wanting to anything weird, like you post it to them first something like that.
It’s a good idea with a dress to offer an “inspection before payment welcome ( with pick ups only)” scenario, even with loads of photos, everyone’s monitor resolutions are set different anyway, so if they are really particular about the colour, it’s best for them to see it in person.
Trying on first, is probably fair enough as well, your buyer might be a 17 year old looking for a school formal dress, and $150 isn’t exactly chump change, they would be coming to your house anyway to collect it, I would offer a bathroom to try it on in.
But just remember, it’s your dress, your deal, you are in control of the situation, don’t let buyers bully you into something you don’t want to do.

A bit of a laugh for your Wednesday morning...
The buyer ended up buying and paying by Ping before I replied to her question about trying the dress on. I emailed and said welcome to view, not comfortable with her trying on in the house. When she turned up, she insisted on trying the dress on - in the garden! Then asked for a mirror to be brought out so she could look at herself! I relented and said she could come inside, but she was adamant that the mirror be brought out to her.
It was the most awkward trade I've ever completed
