Can a Seller pass on the Success Fee to a Buyer
Answered-
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
That is A grade B.S right there! No - you won the auction for $541, any success fees are for the seller to deal with, not you.
Don't not pay more than $541 (Unless you are paying for shipping, then that's separate)

I thought that was the case, but couldn't find anything in the Trademe T&C's or Code of Conduct that prevent it.

Kia Ora Alan,
WoW!!! That would have come as a shock! - Simon has it ...
For a head start in how to tackle this with your Seller Refer to TradeMe Listing policies within Prices and fees:
Prices and fees
All prices must be in New Zealand dollars and include all applicable GST (if any).
Listings fees and success fees are to be paid by the seller. You may not add these fees or other fees onto the winning bid amount.

On quoting this to your Seller keep in mind you can file a Dispute Resolution report with TM from your Won items should the need arise - All the Best - Cheers.
