Is there a thickness limit for bags in booking a courier?
AnsweredHi there
I have wrapped up my items for the buyer inside a plastic bag measuring 21cm x 28cm, so it is within the Medium Bag dimensions. However it is not flat, its about 7cm deep. Is there a limit on the thickness for a bag? Will I have to send this as a box?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Natasha. If it won't physically fit in a flat bag 21 x 28, then you'll have to use a bigger bag or send as a box, which depending on the delivery address can sometimes be cheaper than a bag anyway.
There is no maximum thickness but you should think of the width of the bag x 2 and the length x 2 as the maximum circumferences of your item so in this case 42cm by 56cm circumferences. A flexible dressmakers type tape measure helps with this, or just keep spare bags to check it in.

Thanks Gary-NZStocked - that's very helpful. I understand now and will try it inside a spare bag to check :)

A few years ago I remember reading 10cm being max height for bags on some TM docs, but can't find it back now.

Hi Adriel. Maybe you remember from when Pass the Parcel was on Book a Courier when it first started. They still have on their website "A4 Sized Envelope (21x30cm) with maximum thickness of 10 cm", although, a bag is a bag so it either fits or it doesn't.

Never knew Pass the Parcel was integrated into BAC once, that's wild. But I suspect you're right, as it was in TM's old help pages.
But yeah, if you get pre-made bags at say DLE size, there is only so much height you can fit into it.
I used to (and still do) re-use larger bags, but just tape them down into a smaller size, which is why I initially went looking for bag height.

Yes, Pass the Parcel was the very first incarnation of Book a Courier, before Aramex and Courierpost. They still have integration back to TM so your sales list is on there to book and tracking gets put on sellers and buyers pages, plus it gives even more info than current BAC.
