Estimating courier costs for an item already listed

You can get a quote via Book A Courier on Trade Me, or use the Rate Finder on the NZPost website. Other couriers also have online rate finders. You will need the dimensions and weight of your item.

Hi Kathryn. In addition to what Callum says, if you go to your My Trademe page, you will see near the bottom on the left it says Book a Courier. If you click on that and then choose Something else I want to send you can put in some details eg a bag size, or a box size. Then look up addresses in various locations around NZ eg same city, same island, other island, and use that address with a made up name like Joe Bloggs, go through the quote procedure but DO NOT click the final Book Courier button or you will get charged.
You can press the back button bottom left on that final screen to go back and change things one at a time to get the various different quotes. Once you've done this a few times and kept a note of parcel sizes and prices, it get's much easier and you can add these rates to your future listings so people know without having to ask.
You do need to remember to add in the rural surcharge as well for rural addresses and also to remember that different couriers have different rural/out of area boundaries, so what's rural for one isn't always for another. You won't actually know until you receive the buyers actual address.
For simple quotes all on one page, you might also like to look at Pass the Parcel. They have integration back to Trademe, so your listings and buyers addresses appear there once you have set it up, and when you make a booking there, the tracking is put back on Trademe to the buyers page, and yours. All their pricing is quite simple and on one page here...

I have traditionally used the postage quotes and added to listing but what frequently happens is once item has sold the quoted price is never the same, usually more! Very frustrating as buyer sends money based on quoted price.

Aramex quoted me $ 6.55 to send to Auckland which the purchaser paid but now they want to charge me $23.72! I only sold the item for $35!

Marilyn. Are you sure that wasn't a Urban / Rural address situation?

I had a similar issue. Quoted in the listing as 9.50 but when came to send was 12.90. On a $10 item!
