MFA Catch 22
Hi,
I've been locked out of Trade Me on my phone. Once I enter my user name and password, it asks for an authenticator code. Then it doesn't recognise the code. It no longer gives me an option for MFA via text or recovery code. So I then go onto the web version, to remove authenticator as a MFA - to use text hopefully. However to remove authenticator, I have to enter an authenticator code - which of course doesn't work. Your help bot cannot understand this and keeps giving me the same answer - to go onto the web version and turn authenticator off. But of course it requires a MFA authenticator code to turn authenticator off, which isn't working. Is this some sort of dystopian future.

Hello declutterqueen
When you say that you can't access the Trade Me website because it asks for a code, you realise this code is emailed to you directly from Trade Me, it isn't a third party authenticator code it's asking for?

That is incorrect information. Email me and I will send you the screenshots. When I try to log in it asks me for an uthenticator code and gives me no other option. The screenshots will show you that when you allow me to send them to you. I feel my time is being wasted. Please get rid of the authenticator option for my account and give me an option for Passkey, text, or email authentication. Currently there is not that option.

Hello declutterqueen. I am a Trade Me member just like you, trying to help.
If you want to speak to Trade Me you will have to do that yourself via the Contact Us link
However you can add screenshots on here if you wish to do so

@Callum, my MFA is an authenticator app, there are a few different options you can choose.

Yes, but from my understanding and I could be wrong, that's only on the App AJ, not desktop.
It wasn't that clear to me but it sounds like declutterqueen could have been trying to input the authentication code (third party) into the authentication required officially from Trade Me (by email)
The nub of her problem seems to be "Then it doesn't recognise the code." She needs to figure out why that is.

To clarify, I use the trademe desktop and authenticator app for MFA
And yes I agree, i was a bit confused which "code" they were referring to
