Shipping when a trade goes bad
I recently sold a Samsung phone. Buyer received and noted to me that the charging port was flaky, meaning it worked but would disconnect etc if not positioned carefully. This was overlooked by myself as I have used wireless chargers for years now but in any case I explained that it was almost certainly some lint in the port and to pluck it out with a pin or alternatively send it back to me for a refund which he did.
I got the phone back and confirmed his findings. I popped out the lint and relisted and claimed back success fees before refunding him his full purchase price including initial shipping.
He has queried me about the return shipping. Now this is only 10 dollars but it seems a bit crazy that I should suffer shipping both ways along with Ping fees for what was at the end of the day a maintenance issue and not a physical fault with the device.
Also the buyer is "in trade" and obviously looking to on sell my cheap phone for double the price where as I am "just a dude"
I have perfect feedback record and I don't want to ruin it but I also don't want to get ripped. What should I do here?

flossy63 Community SuperuserIn this case, the phone was found faulty on it's return, you do need to cover the shipping both ways, Buyer should not be left out of pocket if item was not as described,

Understood, I will pay it but it seems awfully harsh on the seller when in my opinion the phone was not faulty. On second thoughts maybe I won't as trademe selling is already bad enough with the sky high fees. I'll take the feed back and stick to Facebook

themuss11 it was faulty for the customer, if it wasn't working, and could have done a return shipping label taken it out and returned to customer no working as a repair, so it was good of you to do the refund instead.
