Buyer chose wrong postage
AnsweredThe buyer clearly has RD in their address but has chosen standard tracked and paid for standard. I have sent two emails stating that they need to pay the extra NZ Post charge of $4.80 for rural in order for me to send it. I have not heard back from the buyer or been paid the rural charge. What now?

Ask the buyer for a non RD address do you can send item or ask CJ or an alternative means to send item. If no response then make comment in your feedback to the buyer

Kia Ora Rosalie.
It sounds like you have been paid for item & part postage - As you have no response after emailing twice have you placed feedback for them yet? I suggest a friendly feedback stating you have sent them 2 emails - Please check your junk/spam folder if you haven't received them and make contact to advise. I am waiting for payment of $4.80 Rural delivery surcharge or an alternative City address to ship to. If I don't hear by (date) I will have to relist the item.
If you have no reply within a couple of days, which you can set your date as, refund them their payment - reclaim your success fee & relist the item. - All the Best - Cheers.

I am having a run of this too. I just had one who made no attempt to pay any postage at all. Also I see if "some" look like a Urban address but when you put them in NZ Post website they are Rural. But if you "book a Courier" it comes up as Urban.

If you run their address through www.addresscheck.co.nz - you might find a courier company that you could easily use that classifies your buyers address as urban - Cheers.

I live Rural so i only use NZ Post or Book a Courier.

The address they sent through trade me literally has RD 2 written in it!

Aramex costs more to aend it rural.

Why choose standard if you know you are rural. It is not up to the seller to pay rural!

I have checked both Aramex and NZ Post courier and they both cost more than me taking it to post shop and adding rural for $4.80. They either pay it or trade canceled. There is no other way.

Rosalie, you might want to look at trying Pass the Parcel. They charge an extra $2.50 for Rural, so for example if you use your own packaging and send to a rural address an A4 bag from North Island to South island it costs $8.10 or same island $7.80. They have integration with Trademe too, so sales data and addresses are pulled through and tracking details are linked back to Trademe as well as emails to buyer and tracking details being available to buyers on their Trademe page. I've used them for many years. It pays to check a few if something comes up as needing a rural surcharge, as on the odd occasion even addresses with RD can be sent with no rural surcharge depending on the courier.

I've had several living outside of Auckland, Wellsford, Warkworth, Kaukapakapa all claiming they live in the Auckland City boundary, that's like claiming Turangi is in Hamilton, Auckland City just unfortunately has the same name as the Region, whereas Hamilton and Turangi's Region is Waikato. So many residents that live outside Auckland City try it on all the time to dodge the "Rest of North Island" courier rates. I've had this conversation with so many and they keep trying, I wish there were more honest people in the world today.

Through address check all the couriers listed require a rural ticket under this address!

Unfortunately, there's no running away from rural dodgers. Usually when there's a need to get in touch with a buyer, I'll try to send just two emails within 24 hours and leave it after that. I reckon if the first email got sent to their spam folder, the second email might reach them, otherwise, my emails will never reach them. I'll have to wait for them to try to get in touch.
I recently had a buyer like that, they won my auction and paid, but my emails to arrange pick up got no response. They eventually emailed me with a different email address (sometimes people do that, their Trade Me email address is not their main email).
I'll just wait, especially if they have made full payment, they will be more anxious than you, they will get in touch after a while. When they do, just tell them you have been trying to get in touch (and keep a copy of those emails as proof).

I just used the chat function regarding a trade where shipping was not paid for. Trade Me solve this by paying the shipping for the trader.!!!. I was told to take off my Combined Shipping option so buyers can not use this option. Attached is what TM told me to do.
Rachel: Your other option to make sure that this doesn't happen again is to remove the $0 shipping option and when a buyer purchases more than 1 item, you can refund one of the shipping costs and your success fee will automatically be refunded. Unfortunately, this would make you ineligible for the "Gold Trade" rebate.
Your other option is to include the shipping in the cost of your items, and offer free shipping for everything. This would mean that all of you items would receive the "Gold Trade" rebate.
(12:47:16) Teresa: So there is no way around it? if I don't have the 0.00 combined shipping people don't want to buy.
(12:48:32) Rachel: There's no way around people choosing the $0 option when they shouldn't be, I'm sorry, other than contacting them directly to pay the difference, or getting us to contact them on your behalf if they don't reply0
