Michelle, the postal info you posted above is incorrect. I collected a brochure at the NZ Post counter this morning and the rates are
- Very small/DLE bags will start at $6.40
- Small bags will start at $7.70
- Medium bags will start at $9.80
- Large bags will start at $10.80
- Extra Large bags will start at $16.00
- Rural delivery charge remains at $5.70
- It is unfortunate that NZ Post can't post the new charges before the start date each year

Book a Courier NZ Post prices are not the same as NZ Post shop,
Your prices are Standard Economy Parcel prices, only available at the Post Shop,
they do not apply to the Trade Me Book a courier at all,

And these prices include the price of the bag so if you package yourself and send instore its $1 or more cheaper depending on the size

Yes I factor in all those to my postage price but the cost is not the reason I dont use BOC as it doesnt work for me. When I tried using it, the posty didnt always pick up the parcel quickly and I use the walk upto the posty shop as an excuse for exercise. The advantage of this, is it means cheaper postage for the buyer which might sway them to buy from me instead of others = potentially higher sales

Just to add a parcel you pack yourself is not a post bag or a courier bag, if not in an official bag, or recycled bag turned inside out of that size, it may cost more if your item does not physically fit inside a Post /Courier bag, it becomes a parcel, if wrapped in paper etc.
Too many on Trade Me sending parcels at bag rates through the book a courier, Ripping Couriers off, as Items do not physically fit inside a courier bag they have been booked at, You do not sit an item on flat 2 dimensions & book at that price, when it is a large 3 dimensional item, for example a shoe box, cannot be sent as a small bag, just because the small end fits sitting on a flat bag?, yes I have received a parcel like this, booked as a small bag, and others also,
another you see is A4 size cook books being send as Very small & small bags !!, physically no way a A4 size item fits inside those bags, but booked like that, yet packaged as a parcel, Some A4 books even to thick to fit in a medium Bag, so can only go as parcels,
You only have to look at some auctions and that members other auctions to see what they are doing, gawk!!!
anyone reading this and does not physically check items physically fit into bag size you are booking, or just sits stuff on the 2 dimensional flat dimensions, You are ripping off courier,
Aramex users easy to pick up by 2 Letter codes, so big users will pick this straight up on receiving a parcel, one look at code and you know, some charge correct shipping and pocket the difference and book as a very small bag, yet a large parcel,

Yeh I totally get what you are saying.
I get the postage cost advised at the counter by the NZ post shop when I sent them. Most of my stuff is similar sizes so they know the cost anyway. Sometimes it doesnt matter, but sometimes when its cheaper to put it into one their bags I do it - this is especially so when bigger items (normally thicker than 70mm) and sending to the other Island as it can be a lot cheaper
