Advice on Non-tracked Items
AnsweredHi there
Sorry for the long post. I'd like some advice on sending items non tracked.
Some items I sell fit into the stamp postage sizing and I currently offer this as a postage option, along with tracking options. It is cheaper than sending any other way, especially if rural as it doesnt attract NZ post RD fees.
Because of this, tt's always being popular however I have noticed since the financial crunch its being selected more. I don't find that using this service is any quicker/slower than seding tracked, nor any more reliable (ie whether it arrives or not).
In the past, NZ post have compensated for lost items even if I used the non-tracking service. They do not anymore, however they will still do some basic checks to try and locate it.
I'm considering whether to continue using this service. On one hand I am reluctant to remove it as its popular and saves buyers money. I am sure the lower rate helps buyers chosing buying from me therefore more sales. On the other hand, if an item goes missing and as its not compensated by NZ post, i dont want to have to be in a position to reimburse out or my own pocket and face negative feedback if I dont. So far there hasnt being any issues of this kind.
So I want some advice on this (continuing to use the non tracked postage).
Also, advice on whether I am required/liable for compesation to a buyer if the item has not being received? As without the tracking its never known what happened to it - delivered, stolen from mailbox, lost etc

I'm in the same boat as you. I still offer it but make it VERY CLEAR in the description, and my dispatch email the problems with a slow service, no tracking, and no way to offer compensation if it goes missing.
Don't forget that the price gap between standard envelope post and tracked seems to be closing all the time. The latest increase puts a DLE envelope at $2.90. I bought a bunch of DLE tracked stickers a couple years ago at $3.78.
I do find the A4 envelopes useful for sending DVDs CDs and thin books etc. But these too have now increased to $5.50. If I didn't have a stock of 100s of them I would axe it and use A5 courier at my rate of $5.80.

Ok good to know Im not the only one in this position LOL. Yes the price increase is the reason why I have started to rethink using it, but as I dont yet know the increase in the parcel prices its still an unknown. Added to that is I currently have 2 of these that havent been delivered yet and 1 buyer is understanding the other is demanding compensation.
Have you had anyone ask for compensation even though you have had those clear statements?

Yes, unfortunately there is nothing you can do except refund the buyer or send another one if they are insistent. You can't prove delivery and as you say NZPost don't investigate so you have no other choice.
