Option to "request a refund" is missing?
AnsweredSeems to be gone as part of the site redesign! When is it coming back? Will I be able to retrospectively request a refund when the option comes back? This is infuriating. I'm stuck dealing with a buyer who thinks it's acceptable to insist on picking up and paying cash 7 days after the auction, that shows every sign of trouble and I'd like to cancel the sale and re-list.

Kia Ora Rick,
TradeMe allow Buyers 2 days to make contact & 7 days to make payment,
Reference: Code of conduct – Help - Trade Me
Buyers
Buyers agree to:
- Respond to emails as soon as possible, and within two working days.
- Pay for goods purchased as soon as possible, and within a week of the auction closing and receiving payment details.
Therefore is sounds like you have a legitimate Sale & Buyer there which is worth working with to complete the Trade.
The Success Fee refund is missing for a few categories only and is on the List to be reinstated early this year. - You can read about the upgrade & a few Features planned to be reinstated in the Help file We're upgrading some of our systems – Help - Trade Me
In the interim you can request a refund by contacting TradeMe staff direct through "Live Chat" for assistance. - You bypass the bot by typing - Talk to person - in the window.
I hope you can work with your Buyer to complete the Trade - All the Best! - Cheers.

How does trademe define "within a week", auction ended on wednesday yesterday, and he wants to pay on thursday next week.

Well 7 days would make it Tuesday, but are you really worried about cancelling a trade because of 2 extra days? A sale is a sale after all.

Absolutely, I would never take that long to pay, and I've never had anyone take that long to pay, out of 200 trades. Longest ever was maybe 3 days. He refuses to transfer any money in advance because he wants to "check it's working" which is nonsense. How's he going to check a guitar pedal when we meet up at a random spot in town, is he going to bring a guitar and amp with him and shred on the footpath? And a "sale is a sale" only if they stick to trademe rules.

If you've only done 200 odd trades then wait until you hit 1000 or 5000, or more. Ive sometimes waited 3 weeks for a payment, after reminders and trademe intervention. Is it frustrating, yes - but they didnt eventually pay so all worked out. If you want to cancel the trade you can as it is outside of trademes policy, so just do it. However, you do realise if you relist it, wait a week and assuming it sells again then wait a bit more time to receive payment, that this will be longer than the 2 extra days the current buyer is making. If your auction states cash as a payment option then he can opt to pay that way.
As for checking the pedal, that is a totally different issue and yes a sale is a sale. it does frustrate me when buyers ask this AFTER the auction closes. I normally am happy to indulge them though as it least it means we can both see it working on pick up. I sold a guitar amp to someone who didnt test it then complained it was crackly. I found out they had it cranked up to max and so was not an issue. Now I insist they all check to save the stress
