Kia Ora MANDY,
What makes you suspect it is a scam?

The email on trademe is @gmail.com and when 5hey sent a private wmail it was @googlemail.com . Also the subject line has alot of +++---*** etc in between the words. Hiwever, he gas just sent a screenshot confirmation of payment so will see if it comes through to my account. Nothing yet but it is a different bank.

Thanks MANDY,
You are correct - that is not a TradeMe email extension.
After sending the emails through to TradeMe staff filter them into your junk/spam folder enabling your email provider to block them from their level also.
Well Done for spotting all of the signs. - Cheers.

Just for interests sake the googlemail name is still a valid Google email account. In some countries Google can't use the word "gmail" (Russia, Poland, Germany, and UK prior to 2010) This is because there was already a gmail name registered there by other companies, so Google aren't allowed to use it in those countries.
It can be a sign that the person you are dealing with is overseas. However to muddy things further, they could of course have originally registered their email account somewhere else, then moved to New Zealand.
