Should sellers be allowed to bid on their own items?
Hi,
I was bidding on 2 furniture items this evening and it got quite interesting as the closing time approached.
Both items were listed with a seller from Kumeu and I was leading the bidding and all of a sudden another bidder - who also happens to be from Kumeu, starts autobidding and raising the price. Every time I or another bidder entered a bid, they kicked in an autobid, but on both occasions managed to let another final bidder win the auction.
Seems very strange that the same person is keen on bidding for two items from another seller in Kumeu but all he does is manage to push the price up. And no way to communicate with Trademe whilst this is going on. ??

Rob, you need to edit your post as it's not allowed to post other members membernames here. You are making a libellous statement about them without legal evidence and a legal conviction, which may bring legal action. You can talk about things in general terms, but you must not post identifying details. Check out the Community guidelines link under the box you type a message in that says "By creating a Post, you agree to and abide by the Community Guidelines."
The best way to report this sort of thing to Trademe is to use the Community Watch link on the auction while it is running. Trademe even have a section specifically for what you are alleging, as screenshot below.

If you use that form, Trademe can investigate both accounts and take action if required.

Kia Ora Rob,
You can still report these Listings direct to a TradeMe staff member through Live Chat as the Listings are now closed, enabling a thorough investigation into both of the accounts. - Community Watch can only be used whilst the Listings are still Live.
To contact TradeMe staff through "Live Chat" for assistance, If you select the Contact us Link at the very bottom of any TradeMe page the Chat Tab will Pop up in blue at the bottom right of your landing page screen. - Enter in the Chat bot which comes up once opened - person - and you will be taken to entering your details before arriving at the window to Chat with a Real Person/Staff. - Enter the Listing numbers in the Chat window here enabling staff to pull them up readily. The Live Chat manned hours weekdays are 8:00am - 5:30pm and weekends 9:30am - 4:pm- Cheers.1 -
Thanks very much for the feedback - I have edited my post and will now follow through with Trademe. I was looking for the right contact details at the time and now know what to do.

The answer to your question is no, sellers are not allowed to bit on their own auctions. But apart from the bidder living in the same area, what actual evidence do you have? You do realise there are more than 2 people living in Kumeu eh? And if you are interested in the same 2 items then its possible that others might too. Im not saying its not happening, just saying it could be legit
