Does Trade Me penalise members that withdraw auctions with bids on them?
AnsweredHi There
Why Trademe is not punishing members that starts an auction and withdraw it once other members has started to bid on it....
this is not facebook market place....so why should someone be allowed to start an auction run it for days and then withdraw it before it closes with active members bidding on it?
People spend amounts of their time saving auctions, follow the bidding and actually missing on auctions just because the seller withdraws the Auction? time wasters..
Fair enough if the Auction hasn't receive any bids , but not right if you are bidding on an item for days just to loose it because is withdrawn without any repercussions to their account.
Come on Trademe , waste of time to look for things if the Auction is not going to go through as it should..

Kia Ora DAN,
Yes! Sellers are allowed to withdraw Listings with bids on them for various reasons including if the item became damaged or a new fault was found before the item sold with a winning bidder. - There are conditions around the withdraw process such as not within the last hour of the Listing due to close or withdrawing because it hasn't met the price threshold the Seller actually wanted, in this instance TradeMe rely on Members to report Sellers who withdraw their Listings which may look suspiciously untoward and Members accounts are noted & monitored accordingly. - Cheers.

Hello Dan. There are repercussions. There is a $3 fee (usually) to withdrawn an auction.
As S says a note will then be made against the seller and they will be monitored for any future complaints for doing the same thing.
A seller is warned this will happen before they withdraw an auction.
If it has happened to you, and you don't think the withdraw was justified you can certainly contact Trade Me and let them know. You might want to ask the seller first why they withdrew it. You can ask on any other items they have listed. Sometimes it pays to check out the Question and Answers for the closed item. That can sometimes be revealing.
