Problems shipping to Waiheke Island
AnsweredRecently, we do not ship to islands such as waiheke , this is stated on our listings, island shipping has always been problematic for us, anyway a a waiheke island buyer purchased and was a bit put out, it seems that the trademe personalised listing shows to him, waiheke and a price , which we dont do. i have not asked trademe how to opt out but doubt that i would get a useful answer, the only solution i can think of is to include a waiheke freight option at a silly price, which i am reluctant to do.

What is problematic for you to ship to Waiheke and other islands Ric? Easy enough to get some real quotes for different size parcels and add those to listings.

I have Shipped to Waihehe and Chatham no issues or extra costs. What am I missing?

that would depend on the item and service you are using

Hi Ric, it won't be possible to "opt-out" these things are ingrained in Trade Me or google searches.
I would just do as your initial idea and include a Waiheke island rate. Which courier do you use? There are no problems with the main ones, but some do have a steep excess. Maybe your items are large and require a freight carrier?
I made this document many many years ago, as this was a common question on the messageboards. Things may have changed now, but I think the general idea of it should be correct

most of my items are larger, but still ok for courier service, a few push the boundaries a bit, the 2 couriers i use are nzc and pbt , nzc will , but load the price, pbt quote 1 price and frequently invoice at different rate, so i gave up as it was always a bun fight, and frequently i never made money on the transaction. it was easier to just not send to waiheke and avoid the nonsense which is ok, i state on my listing no courier to islands, but now the auto customised trademe to the buyer shows freight to waiheke , which can excite them a bit when i say no, but their viewpoint is also correct, this really has been bought about by the trademe customised view to the buyer, or whatever it is called, there are not a lot of transactions involved, but from a buyer viewpoint ( if they read the listing information ).
it is totally ambiguous

I know this is an older thread, but I came across it and felt the need to add a comment...
Most companies I know use NZ Post for Waiheke, Gt Barrier, Chatham's and Stewart Island, because to their credit, they do not charge any extra and the delivery service is reliable.
You do not need an account with them (although it is a bit easier if you do have one as you can book now and pay later) - and you can easily use the "Send It" feature (https://www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/send-it/nz) to get a ticket cost, print the ticket and book the pick up all in one place. I have found it very very useful indeed! Thanks NZPost for doing something right !! :-)
