How to pay and get paid instantly – with Ping, on Trade Me.
Make payments safely with Ping. Pay or get paid instantly – using a credit or debit card, or Ping balance. Ping is safe and secure, and offers both Buyer Protection and Seller Protection.
Buying
Use Ping to pay for purchases on-site, or top up your Trade Me account. To pay for an item – look for Ping under Payment options on a general Marketplace listing.
- Select Ping when choosing your payment method.
- Enter your card details – or choose a saved payment method.
- After you've won an auction, head to your Won items.
- Select Pay with Ping on the listing.
- Enter your card details – or choose a saved payment method.
Accepted payment methods:
- Ping balance
- Mastercard
- Visa
- American Express
- Prezzy Card (excluding top-up)
- Q Mastercard
Buyers aren't charged a payment fee.

Selling
- To receive payment via Ping, select it as a payment option when starting a listing.
- Payments received appear instantly in your Ping balance.
- Ping can be used on purchases up to $10,000.00.
Fees
A transaction fee of 1.95% is automatically deducted from the total payment amount (including shipping). Success fees may also apply.
Ping fees and success fees are refunded automatically when a full or partial refund is made.
Ping balance
Your Ping balance can be used to pay for Trade Me purchases, or transferred to your NZ bank account.
If you have money if your Ping balance, this will be selected by default when topping up or making a purchase. To pay another way, select a different payment method.

Topping up
- Go to My Trade Me and select.
- Enter your top-up amount, then add or select a payment method.
Refunding Ping payments
To request a refund as a buyer, contact the seller.
- Refunds are made to the original payment method used by the buyer.
- Ping fees and success fees are refunded automatically when a full or partial refund is made.
- Refunds can be made within 45 days of the listing closing. To refund a payment older than 45 days, get in touch below.
1. Go to My Trade Me.
2. Under 'My balances', select.
3. Select All transactions, select the transaction you'd like to refund, then select.
1. Go to your Sold listings from My Trade Me.
2. Select the listing you want to refund.
3. Select Payment received under ‘Post auction activity’.
4. Next to the paid amount, select Issue refund.
5. Select the amount you wish to refund, and follow the prompts.
