Hey Gary, What courier booking system do you use? And would you mind disclosing whether you get a discounted rate due to the volume of parcels you send? I don’t do that many trades - only about 30 a week at the moment - but I do like NZ Post’s delivery times. I would like to use them more often but find the cost of using them via BAC to be prohibitive when sending inter island. I’m always keen to explore other options. Thanks Andrea

Hi Logan I’ve got a couple of those trades going on at the moment. I always ask if they would prefer to give an alternative urban delivery address or pay the rural delivery surcharge. Most people reply immediately and often it’s a genuine mistake but there’s always the occasional cheeky buyer. Usually after sending a few emails and placing neutral feedback to get their attention, I just sit back and wait for them to get in touch. I figure that as I have the goods and the bulk of their payment they will eventually realise that in order to get their item they need to pay the rural delivery su...

Hi Bruce. Have a look on Facebook as there are various Facebook groups devoted to Crown Lynn. There is one that will help you with placing a value on your pieces as well as advising the best way to sell eg as a bulk lot or individually. I find they are usually very accurate on their pricing as one of the admins keeps a spreadsheet of Trade Me auction results. Good luck.

Sorry that you have been having problems with Aramex. I live on a main road in Tauranga and have found them to be very efficient with their same day pick ups. Sometimes it depends on your actual courier driver, I know when ours changed recently the poor chap was struggling with getting everything done but now he’s up to speed. I’ve also heard that delivering Temu parcels has put a strain on our local Aramex drivers. That having been said, I often use Pass the Parcel for inter island shipping. I find it’s much cheaper for larger parcels and rural delivery items.

I’m an In Trade Seller and just in the process of applying for some refunds on my success fees due to combining shipping. How do I calculate these? Is there a flat percentage that is applied across all categories or does it depend on what category the items were listed in? Thanks people!

  • Andrea commented,

Love Simon’s advice. I’m not sure if you’ve already been paid or not. If so, all well and good. But if not you don’t want to be left in a situation where you wait for three weeks and then the buyer doesn’t actually complete the trade. I would be inclined to say I’m happy to hold it for you but I will require payment to be made within x number of days. That tends to sort out the committed buyers from those that are likely to waste your time. Often people ask a question on my auctions to this effect and 9 times out of 10 they don’t proceed with the purchase when they realise that they will n...

Hi Lorraine. Everyone has their own way of sending parcels but my life got a lot easier once I discovered Trade Me’s Book a Courier system (BAC) and Pass the Parcel. Both are a door to door courier service so I never have to go to the post office. BAC allows you to send courier bags and boxes with either NZ Post Courier or Aramex. You don’t need a printer because they will print the labels for you. There are set prices depending on what size bag or box, whether the buyers address is urban or rural, same island or inter island. You can get an idea of shipping costs at the time that you list...

When you say “Purchased at Buy Now price” does that mean you have paid for the item via Ping or Internet Banking? If so, you need to contact Trade Me via the Live Chat to discuss your options as this is highly unusual. I would also place neutral feedback (blue face) stating you paid for the item last Wednesday and have tried to contact them via email. Ask them to check their spam folder. Hope you get this sorted.

I totally agree Kathryn. Our local library divides their books into three main categories- picture books, chapter books for primary & middle school & young adults. All books are shelved alphabetically.which makes it easy to find your favourite authors. I do see the sense of dividing picture books by category rather than alphabetically although some of the current categories on Trade Me are a bit outdated. I always thought a NZ Picture Book category would be extremely helpful. Another little irritation is the lack of a dedicated section for Autobiographies and Memoirs. I list them under bio...

  • Andrea created a post,

I sell a lot of Children’s chapter books, suitable for Middle School/Age 8 to 12 year olds. They are not suitable for listing in the Young Adult Section. Instead I list them under Books/Children&Babies/Other - where they tend to get a bit lost as there are currently over 12000 listings. It would be great if there could be a separate subcategory for Chapter Books in the Children&Babies section, which could then be organised alphabetically by Author, much like the Young Adult Section. At the moment lots of people list the likes of Roald Dahl and David Walliams in the Young Adult section but t...
